I went shooting on my property this weak end I tried out the Federal 308 Sp 150grn.I was told not to use it but I did and it grouped 1" moa I had the scope sighted on South African ammo and was getting 2" to 4" moa on that ammo now I KNOW IT IS THE AMMO NOT THE GUN any way the brass on the Federal did not bulge or tear up like I was told. All of these years I was told not to shoot commercial ammo through my CETME but it worked for me and the plus side is that Federal 308 150grn is 13 bucks at Wally-World http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab274/tx318/007.jpg http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab274/tx318/008.jpg http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab274/tx318/006.jpg I was using the CETME on on the right to make those groups with :sparta:

The commercial ammo may or may not come apart on you. An extended range session or failure to clean may cause more trouble........and may not. Watch the brass like it seems you are and it will let you know. I shot a few rounds of Federal also with no issues but just to quick sight and hunt the first year. I reloaded military brass for it all now. I would keep the broken shell extractor just in case. No matter what brass you are using, if a piece gets hung in the flutes you will probably need it. It should be standard equipment for the roller locked weapons.

Nice grouping either way!

That's good to hear that it worked ok for you. I bought a couple boxes beacuse I want to use it for deer this year. My green and yellow box S&B had no flute marks in them that you could feel just some soot. I was hoping the Federal would be the same or similar

Yes, no flute marks only the soot lines from it . After I shot that was the only 2 brass cases I found it kicked them way out there the rest got lost in the grass. The brass looked like you could re-load it again . It did not have much of a extractor mark on it :sparta::g3:

Nice group and that's great that you had no issues with commercial ammo. And that looks like a great place to shoot.

If you can get a group like that with commercial, It would be something to see what it could do with something that was reloaded for it.
I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer.
As was already said, nice group but don't let it make you complacent about your ammo. I went through several boxes of commercial before the first problem. I have had three broken case problems. Two case head separations and one live round being stuck in the chamber because the neck was pulled off of the previous round.

Nice grouping, for sure it likes the spin on that ammo. The fact that you have no deep flute marks in the brass is definitely a good sign for now. That ammo may be a little milder for pressures. Your rifle might shoot it forever without a hiccup. If you reload, measure the fired cases and compare to unifred brass, I think you will find that it will pay you to only neck size your .308 brass. Again, nice group!, that one may just be a keeper.

Nice.

If yo can find some surplus M118 Nato, That was giving me groups under an inch at 100 yards with the stock trigger.

Is your place over by Eagle lake? I did a couple of dive jobs over there around that area. Nice country in that area but an awful lot of gators in a couple of places there.

I manage a Walmart sp.goods dept, and highly recommend both the Fed you use and Winney white box, though I note they shoot a tad dirtier(powder fillers?)than milspec NATO. I used my discount to get a 500 rnd case of Fed .308 for my kit built Hk91,and am down to 80 rounds left, and NEVER had a separation or malfunction. I saved the brass and contemplate reloading it. Here's a group I shot at a hun the came in just a tad over an inch, with a called flier that I was adjusting the scope for, also a Centerpoint like one one of yours...

Why does the variety of ammunition stocked at Walmart vary so much from store to store ? My local store never gets the Federal .308 while the ones in the next county always seem to have it.

There are dozens of regional "buyers" that are assigned to various regions that make independent decisions as to what to order for their markets. We at the local level get little say in the matter, sometimes we get what sells good and sometimes we get a flop. A case of .280 Rem we got once lasted 8 years!

My squares are 1" as well, and folks at the range constantly remind me that the Hk system is reliable, but not very accurate... try touching three rounds of cheap commercial together with your Ak or Mini14...heh heh...
