the UN is a political country club for way to many people. it should be removed from U.S. soil and maybe moved over to FRANCE. the monitary support should be cut to almost nothing or nothing. money owed to the U.S. should be paid back. there is not much that the U.N. is capiable of doing. it cannot even work for places that have natural disasters. the U.S. usually has to come in and help or do it.
my feeling is the U.S. needs to be out of the U.N totally.
armies for hire is not a new concept. many countries ( including the U.S.) have hired them and used them in there history. some times special skills are needed.
IMHO

The UN is a worthless piece of Cr_ _! They should stick to giving food and drug aid to drug lords directly instead of trying to get it to the needy! There is less waist that way!

It's impossible to come to any other conclusion than that the UN is a worthless, corrupt POS, that ought to be replaced with something better.
But, I'll have to do a LOT of research before I buy into the theory that EO was anything resembling a "humanitarian" organization... I was always under the impression that they were bought and paid for by the people behind the diamond mines. That's not to say that they *didn't* do some good for the locals.

Skill one: No imbedded reporters
Skill two: No politicians or any other entity shall call the shots or limitations (it's WAR, not play school!)
Skill three: No stopping until the main objective of the incursion is completed and all objectives are met and able to be maintained by the people we fight for on their own.
Skill four: Funding doesn't stop until we're out and all equipment is repaired/replaced at the ready for the next problem we have to fix for people that will not fight for their own freedom.
Skill five: No fighting for people that will not fight along side our troops for their freedom.
I am sure the list has more to be added! To tell the truth, I don't think we will ever be without war as long as someone besides the American public benifits from the conflict. But the Americans always pay for it!

randy, er! merc's don't work for free. some one has to pay for them. i guess if it helped to stablize the country and helped the general population then i don't really care. it was still much cheaper than using the U.N. and a lot more sucessful.
it is kind of like the pirates on the other coast. they need to hire some skilled people to protect the ships. it wouldn't take very long for the pirates to find another profession.

The UN is past tense. The purpose for it has passed...Now it is only junk cluttering up the garage and another thing for them to dump our wealth into.

There is a nice little patch of swamp and scrub brush on the north east side of Mogadishu and about a mile and a half from the coast that has room for a UN building. Lots of cheap labor available for construction too. Best yet they would be close to where their attention is needed. They need to get away from the lights of Broadway and the shopping on 5th avenue and learn to do what needs to be done where the doing is needed. New York City doesn't need the UN's help.

Yes! I "get that"! I'm NOT saying they were 100% bad, or 100% good, just that, if there was a conflict-of-interest between their employers, "whoever" they were, and the local population, the locals were not going to do as well as that video indicated, that's all. I'd gather from the video that these were South African mercs... I'm guessing "not" (mercs being loyal to money and beliefs moreso than flags)... but, even if so, South Africans weren't exactly known to be friendly towards persons with more melanin than they had.
And, I agree about the pirates. It would take, I'm guessing, about 1X "experienced" person, per ship. I think we need to have the UN to give the Somali pirates boats with longer range, to go after the Japanese whalers, just so that awful TV show goes off the air. And, also, maybe they can help the whales.
My favorite mercenaries were the AVG, AKA The American Volunteer Group, AKA The Flying Tigers, under command of Claire Chennault, who were fighting the Japanese in China well before Pearl Harbor. Highly paid, and, well, with, uh, "atypical" personalities. Amongst those valiant pilots was Greg "Pappy" Boyington, who was to earn fame as the leader of the infamous VMF-214 "Black Sheep Squadron", which, AFAIK, really WAS much like the TV show indicated, a bunch of drunks that Pappy had to collect from jails/brigs throughout the Pacific Theater. Lethal, brave, and good at their jobs.
Eventually, WWII caught up with the USA, and the AVG, and Chennault, were given shitty choices...needless to say, we won the war.
I've read, more than once, that Madame Chaing cried at their farewell party....
(Unrelated: China is where the surviving flights from Doolittle's Raid had to land...China and Chiang were our Friends...for just a few billion $)
And, like I, myself and others have said about various subjects (in this case, The Flying Tigers), if John Wayne made a movie about you....you're probably OK. Merc, or not.

As a free society we dont see a need for paid soldiers to fight our battles, we just under pay the ones who fight for God and Country. The differance between our under paid soldiers and Mercs are the ones calling the shots. Politicians dont care who dies but the Leaders of the mercs hate to loose one. The politicians dont want any bad press, they wont get re-elected. The leaders of the mercs just get the job done. I belive that when the General was stopped at the border and was not allowed to go bagdad under Bush one our Gov failed us. Since then no General was allowed to act alone, they all have HAD STRINGS ATTECHED TO THEM. McCrystill was lied to and retailiated via the press. Supprise. So my rant will end with this. The Revolution will start in the ballot box this nov. But we must stand up and require our political parties nominate normal people not the liers. Thank You.:America:

If you guys get a chance do some research on Executive Outcomes there is a lot of good info about them on the web. The force was made up primarily of South African Defense Force soldiers, and Rhodesian special Ops Soldiers.
The Company was founded by an ex-Colonel from the SADF and they were very professional, well trained and effective at what they did.
They accomplished what the UN could not with minimal man power, and cost.
The Revolution will start in the ballot box this nov. But we must stand up and require our political parties nominate normal people not the liars. Thank You.:America:
Amen Brother. Peaceful Revoultion, by the people, for the people!
