I have a winchester reweld, due back soon. I want to make it as accurate as possable with-out killing its historical value. I know there are some excellant gun smiths on this forum, so I need your help. Thank you in advance for your help.:icon_biggrin:

It would depend how you would see a certain add-on for increasing accuracy in balance to keeping the historical value you want.

A quality scope and mount are easy first steps but would a modern high power scope and new-age multi-contact point mount fit into the historical value?

Same would apply for bedding or swapping the barrel to say a chrome-lined match grade heavy barrel with a proven muzzle brake or flash hider.

I loved my Polytech M14S but I started adding up what I wanted to do with it and it got scary in costs. :icon_neutral:

I just sent my poly out to warbirds a month ago to lug on a medium weight NM douglas barrel, HRA bolt, NM gas system and NM flash hider. I sport a smith enterprise scope mount on it usually. I'll give you a range report once it returns.

Ahhh, ok Henry, makes more sense now :) Mine is all Winchester minus the receiver and it shoots fine.

There is no such thing as a "NM bolt" ALL GI M14 parts (except barrels) are made to the same specifications regardless of manufacture - The TRW mystic comes from the fact that they are the only manufacture that made 1 piece oprods (SA, H&R & Win oprods were welded from 2 pieces) & the only maker of hammer forged barrels GI barrels - I have built & owned M14 type rifles for years & can tell you that there is absolutely NO difference in real world performance between GI parts, regardless of who made them

I will have to go through the parts to see who the mfg's are. Thanks for the input. Has any one got an experience on a sage or similar stock?
