Can anyone please tell me how to remove the buttplate on a G3 buttstock. I have seen the schematics but the buttplate wont pull off. Or do I have to drive the inserts that hold the takedown pins out, and if so how? Thanks.

You can try to wedge it out with a screw driver or put the butt in the door jam and pull the door partially closed...so the buttplate is stuck between the door and frame, and pull.

/You may need to pad with a towel for option #2

Thanks, I will try a towel and a padded bench vise.

I tried the screwdriver method once, and all i ended up doing was dinging up the plastic on my stock

I would recommend the other method, or a vise as you said works fine too. but instead of pulling straight out, go to the side as well, it makes it easier

Assuming you've FULLY removed the large bolt holding it together, I've had luck holding the stock between by feet and wiggling it side to side while pulling up gets mine free.

A pair of visegrips and two pieces of wood work for me.

Gelit, I believe he's trying to get the buttpad off. Youve got to get that off before you can get the bolt out, and on some of the G3 furniture, they can be a real bitch to get off.

The buttpad as in the piece of rubber held on with either two long screws (ie. Cetme) or the clips (ie. G3)?

If that's the case call me lucky because I've never run in a problem getting that off. What makes them so hard to remove?

you are correct that on a wood stock its 2 screws, and on plastic, its those clips. Those clips can be real boogers to get off many times on the old G3 stocks... kinda frozen in place or something.

Door jamb! You can regulate the amount of pressure on the pad with the door. Use a closet or bedroom door, as most entrance doors have some sort of weatherstripping.
Get it snug in there, pull the stock forward and rotate it down. That way you break the springs loose one at a time.
