I got this in my mail today and was happy to see it. Thought I'd share.
Dear Mike,
Knowing of your concern about the
problems in our nation's immigration system,
I would like to update you on recent actions
in Congress.
As you may be aware, the Senate
recently put forward a so-called immigration
reform proposal. The proposal was drafted
by a group of Senators with the input of the
President and is being billed as a
compromise. From what I have seen of the
proposal, however, I firmly believe that it
is the wrong approach. The Senate provides
amnesty for the 12 million illegal aliens
estimated to live in United States. Under
the proposal, undocumented workers who
entered the country before January 1, 2007,
would be eligible for a new "Z visa."
I am disappointed by this ill-conceived
plan. At a time when illegal immigration is
straining our communities, we need to curb
the influx of illegal aliens and secure our
borders. Amnesty proposals will only
encourage more illegal immigration. I am
hopeful that a majority in the Senate will
recognize this as a deeply flawed proposal
and will vote against the bill. Rest
assured that I do not support amnesty and I
will work for effective immigration reform
that secures our borders and discourages
illegal immigration.
As always, I look forward to hearing
your views on this and other issues of
importance to you and your family.
Stay in touch,
