Didnt someone here buy a german flecktarn flak vest and test it with various rifle calibers?

I picked one up cheap for the shop, was using a 60 ton hydraulic press and have had things break an fragment ending up halfway through a sheet of 3/4 plywood, thought it would really suck to catch a fragment of something in the gut!

Kevin, thought someone was selling them on ebay at one time, they seemed to be reasonably priced but wonder how well the stuff holds up after ageing.

i assume thats why they get sold as surplus

i was just curious what they were capable of stopping, i think someone doubled up the kevlar and shot them with .22 and 9mm etc to see what they could possibly stop

A friend of mine got ahold of a excessed vest from a department here and shot the crap out of it, for what you want protection they might be just fine, but actually they stop bullets far better than really sharp objects, due to the way the fabric resists the blunt projectiles. You can defeat most woven fabric protection with a sharpened ice pick. Many armies have been thinking about countering body armor, atleast woven variants, with fleichettes, which can just pass thru the woven ballistic fabrics.
