Which way would you go? At first, I was going to get a Century Galil.
However, it seems on a couple of forums there have been some problems
with the Century builds. The ORF Galils are about $300 more but they may be worth it in the long run. After all, ammo for testing and shipping the gun back is expensive if you have to mess around with a lemon (or two).

I guess a third option would be to have one built but I'm too impatient for that route.

If anyone has had any experience with either company's Galils please post about it.

Just got my Galil/Golani from Century, and I'm impressed, so far, after disassembly/cleaning/inspection, and lubrication. Tomorrow it'll get a good function, and range test. However, I see this little sweetie needs some accessories to bring it up to my specs. The items I'm looking for are the correct sling, bayonet, mags, and the bi-pod. Just curious, what is everybody using, for sources of these items. I'm also not real sure if the Century rifle has the attachment point on the rifle, or if it's been ground off, and the correct bi-pod can't even be mounted to the rifle. Last, but not least. What is the twist rate on the new Century barrel, and what ammo seems to be working best, 55grn, or 62grn bullets? More to your original question, I believe that the real deal is that the initial run of these rifles lacked in some QC, and other issues. However, as I've noted, they seem to have cleaned their act up a bit, and the piece they are offering currently, called the Golani Sporter, is a decent piece, IMHO.
Thanks,
Michael

I wonder what's up with the name change from Galil to the GOLANI. When I bought my kit from Centerfire I bought my receiver too from them. They told me it was an ORF receiver. But that Century was marketing it and putting their name on it. Sure enough, Say's Century on it. Now they've changed the name and they can't get barrels for their kits. ORF is making .223 barrels and .308's. The .223's are supposed to go to market this month. Makes me wonder if ORF didn't want their name associated with Century Products. Selling them as kits and the kit builder was in charge of quality control. But with Century making the kits into rifles and selling them, and a lot of them went back... Ummm

i read on one of the sites that the name "GALIL" could not be used and they had to change it.

as far as century name being on the receiver, all receivers i have ever gotten from them ( fal's, cetme's, ak's,), have century stamped on them no matter who made it. ( some had the manufacture name also (imbel), but most did not). i understand that all the galil receivers were made by ORF.

i have heard of a few going back, and that was for head spacing issues.

i finally got to shoot mine a few weeks ago and it shot fine, i got the first or second one that was sold from century. mine has "galil" on it. maybe i just lucked out.......

I think I will play it safe and pony up the extra cash for a an ORF Galil.
I just had a shooting buddy here locally buy a Century Galil and first time out
had problems with both brass and steel case ammo. It seems the rounds
won't always strip off the top of the magazines. Now he is looking at sending in his new gun. Saving a few dolloars doesn't seem like its worth it.
