May as well begin an AR picture thread for the forum...
I'll start with a Rock River Arms LAR15 with a stubby stock and a Trijicon RX01NSN Reflex

Ok, I'll play.
I've got a 7-1/2" barreled SBR in progress plus one more stripped lower in the safe to build. These are the ones I have pics of.
Here's my DPMS LR-308.
I just changed the scope over to a Leupold for a vari-power.
This is the lightweight I just built.
This is My Rock River
This is the 50 Beowulf
In progress waiting on the lower and a few various parts to get Duracoated.

I love mine. Got about 500 rounds through it.
Great round. recoil is about like a 12ga.
And reloading is definitely the way to go.

wulf50guy,
What's the spec on the last rifle posted (one in assembly progress). What's the rail system and what model ACOG? Your lightweight looks exactly like my Bushy.

Hey KnobCreek.
The last Rifle is a flat top J&T upper, 16" heavy barrel, vortex FH Bader Ord tac latch.
The rail system is a Midwest Industries 2 pc free float.
I'm having it all Duracoated AUG Green.
The ACOG is something I'm doing a durability test on. It's actually not an ACOG.
It's a 4 power version with BDC reticle in it. I'm gonna beat the heck out of the scope and see how it holds up. I probably will put a real one on there later though.

kewl, I've got a fluted 16" Bushmaster barrel, Duracoated green, enroute that I'll mate to an upper receiver that'll eventually be Duracoated in the same color. Was weighing my options on the scope setup and I've limited it either an EoTech or an Aimpoint, but ACOGs would do nicely.

Bushmaster is some good stuff.
So far Ive got mostly Aimpoints and eotechs. This is my frist go round with an ACOG type optic. I like the real ones but sheesh they a re pricey...

OK, back to the pictures; I have got to go out and invest in a good lighting system. I just snapped off a couple using a drop light and work light, but forgot to set my white balance on the camera...oh well.
This is a Rock River Arms that was purchased a couple months ago, prior to me getting into the swing of assembling them. It sports a MagPul PRS stock, YHM freefloat, MAID pistol grip, 16" Stainless steel, chrome-lined barrel, winter trigger guards, and no name military style 3-9x scope mounted on a ARMS #38 sleeve.

My one and ONLY AR-15 is the first "evil rifle" I ever bought.
It's an Olympic 16" barrel with telescopic stock. If I had to buy over again, I'd go Bushmaster or Colt....but it's been a decent shooter.
I bought a TON of crud for it. About HALF of the accessories are shown here. I also have a light, lazer, bipod, and cheek piece that I bought after this pic.
Then.....I stripped all that crud off and like it better in its stock configuration.
Probably ought to sell off all the AR accessories....(EDIT: in order to fund a retro project that I have now gotten hooked on!!!)

Here's my Oly; it's a PCR-2 sporting a Delta cheekrest, Bushnell Banner 6-18x power scope on a Leatherwood mount. I absolutely hate it in it's current configuration, but just haven't had the time to swap things out on her. She's really a great rifle to shoot though.

The 15 ran great since day one, but the 10 had a core shift in the upper casting (in the tube where the bolt rides) so I had to send it back. Took about three weeks but they replaced the upper and now it runs great and is even more accurate. I still can't believe that got through quality control but these days nothing surprises me. The 10 is my primary hunting rifle now (How you like THAT Zumbo)

Yeah, the AR10 is one of my favorite rifles to shoot these days. I still need to get to the range and test fire my A3, with the Elcan, to see if it shoots OK....if not, I hope they'll honor any waranty work that may come up in the future. I've had it for almost 2 years now without even firing it.

Hey KC, a while back on the old site, you post a mod to help when you replaced the butstock on an AR. I can't remeber what it was for exactly, but I had it bookmarked. It involved tapping a hole on the back of the lower and putting a screw flush. Can you post that again if you have time?

Here is my Bushmaster Stainless Varminter with a 3-9x 40 Mueller scope with an Iluminated reticle. I also installed flip up iron sights for back-up.
It is very accurate. On a good day I can can get a five round group at 100 yards with three holes touching and two more a half inch away. Some times I get only two ragged holes with a five round group.

I had an Olympic A2 before the Big "D". I had no problems with it. Put together this DPMS for a lot, lot, lot less than NEW. Chrome plated bolt carrier, tinned (gold) firing pin, CAA stock. Bought the stock this afternoon and borrowed the stores wrench to finish it and stopped at the range on the way home. WOW! After sighting it I got a nickel sized hole at 50 yards. That's with the peep shown which is a cheapo. I'm sure I'll get more crap to hang on it. Some kind of Holo sight, and a light for sure. Waiting on my QD sling swivel so I can sport the single-point sling from Jfowl.

Saw a factory trained armorer at the range the other day. Big fan of the Eotech but he had one of the panoramic type sights on his. His was @ 100.00 but couldn't see a brand name. He said it worked perfect every time and as well as his eotech. Someone had knocked his rifle off a bench and ruined his first Eotech so he was using a cheaper type for plinking and really liked it. FWIW.

I assembled a new AR as a companion to the Bushmaster Stainelss Varminter that I posted earlier. It has a Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine upper with a DPMS lower. I was spoiled by the fine 2-stage competition trigger in the Varminter so I am in the process of gettng one for the DPMS lower. The carbine will be shot mostly with iron sights but I do have a carry handle rail mount from Smith Enterprises and a great fixed 4 power Burris Short mag Scope for those special occasions.

Very nice stock, if I do say so myself! It adjusts with a click, for comb height and LOP. Haven't shot it yet, but it is nice to snap to the shoulder and everything aligns correctly, every time.
DPMS lower, RRA 2-stage trigger, Model 1 24" SS fluted upper, full float. Simmons 8X32 AO scope.
I have some hot lapping bullets to run thru it, and then I will see how well it shoots.

I added the specs to the precious post.
Just took it to the range today. Ran some fire lapping bullets thru it, then dialed in the scope with some Radway green surplus at 50 yds.
The benches at this range suck, so I wasn't able to get comfortable. As it was, it will easily put all 20 rds. from the mag into the center bull on a standard rifle target. All touching. Easily should be sub-MOA at 100.
I'll get it out to a decent 100 yd. range next time home and really see what she'll do.

I got it at Sportsmans Warehouse in Olympia, WA. Cabelas didnt have em either. It was called "Military Sling" so its just a regular one. I got it for match shooting, the vertical grip is a little in the way of my hand but I can get over it. That grip is not moving out of its place. Had to put it there with one guy holding the tabs down and me smackin it with a hammer.
Edit: That link Optimus put up has em for $25, sportsmans warehouse had them for $15. They dont have those stores in alot of places tho.

Pete, close that dust cover man. The dust cover is one of the more fragile parts on the system and should be kept closed when possible.
Also, NEVER, EVER leave the charging handle back. Lock bolt open. Close charging handle. Relatively thin aluminum charging handle is fairly easily buggered up.

Qual with that one, be the envy of all the other officers. I wish the Army would let me bring my own stuff instead of the craptacular M4's they issue out. The trigger pull is horrid compared to my match trigger. If they let me I would instantly put a gas piston system in mine.

I almost feel like I'm committing blasphemy by posting a "plain Jane" AR. This is my "Confederate SP-1" simply built with a Colt U.S. Air Force surplus upper and a Lauer Lower.
I machined off the fence around the mag release, and did a couple other small things. Took off the ear on the bolt release.
I did not machine off the reinforcing metal on the lower around the area where the stock meets the lower, nor the extra metal at the front pin.
Rifle is dura coated "Colt Gray".
I like the sleek look of the early models without the forward assist and all the other lumpy stuff I don't know how to use anyway.

ITS FINALLY HERE!!! I ordered the RRA NM Upper in January and the guys were saying 2010 before it would come in. I was surprised as hell when UPS pulled in the driveway only 4 months later.
I built the lower from RRA stripped lower and parts kit. Need to get a buttstock counter balance wieght. The float tube under the handguards make it very muzzle heavy. Jard adjustable 2 stage 2lb trigger also in the lower.

LOTSA good-lookin' setups in here - hope MINE measure up; here we go!
First up, my POF-415!
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc305/The_War_Wagon/POF2-1.jpg
It's an early '08 model - Gen.III lower with a P12SX predator rail. Goodies include; Vltor stock, Z360 Tactical Link mount and Stealth 1-pt. sling, Ergo grip, Magpul MBUS rear sight, EOTech 557, TangoDown foregrip, Vltor Scout mount holding an Insight HX120 Proxima light, portaged via a Condor bag.
Here she is, posing along side her running mate and current project, which is not QUITE completed...
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc305/The_War_Wagon/100_4637.jpg
It's my S&W M&P15T - an early '07 model.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc305/The_War_Wagon/SW2.jpg
Some of the goodies on this 'un include; CAA sidesaddle on the S&W M4 stock (yeah - I know... Vltor EMod is slated for down-the-road), Tactical Link Z360 mount and 1 pt. Stealth sling (now with a QRB), Magpul Enhanced MIAD grip, S&W-emblazoned Troy BUIS on the factory provided Troy free-float handguard, TangoDown foregrip, Vltor Offset mount with a Pentagon L2 light, all likewise portaged by a Condor bag.
Still needs a red dot at this point - most likely an EOTech 512 - and of course, a better stock down the road, but here's my AR's, ready to go! :D

Just finished this badboy. Built it one piece at a time, and it only cost 32,000 dimes. Kind of a mutt rifle, but to build a .308 AR you almost have to these days because parts for one brand are almost impossible to find a whole gun's worth in one brand. It has some wobble between the upper and lower, I cannot find the sleeve made by Cold War Shooters that goes aorund the pivot pin. Accuwedge doesnt fit under the rear, but I could trim it down. I want to Duracoat the barrel matte black, its in the mail. +10 to Bill Springfield for his work on the trigger. He says its 2lbs but it feels like 2oz. Havnt shot it yet, been pretty hot recently and I just had PRK eye surgery. I cant wait to take this guy out for some long range blastin. Here's what she's made of:
POF lower
Ergo grip palm shelf sniper grip
Fulton Armory upper
Daniel Defense 12.0 Lite Rail
Bill Springfield trigger job
Armalite BCG
Harris Bipod
Walther/Lothar 24” SS 1:11.25” twist barrel
Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50mm M1
Burris XTR rings
Badger Ord tac latch
Edit: Took it out to the range today, high at 30yds by 2" then real high at 100yds. Dialed it down to one shot at the top of the target out of pic range then what you see here. Yeah, I flinched twice, getting used to a 2lb trigger. That final zero works for me for now. It had three light primer hits with OLD nato ammo. Headstamp had NA at 9oclock and TO at 3. I think it was from the 50's, just was testing the action with it. Zero was done with much newer Lake City ammo. Doesnt have much kick for a 7.62, a kitten compared to my PTR.

I know I have not been active on here in a long time (this past April to be exact), but I wanted to share with you guys my newest 'baby'. I painted the parts earlier in the week and just finished building it yesterday (with the guidance of the BF). :)
(Yes, the rail is a bit loose in this shot.. I didn't notice until after I took the photos and I was too lazy to re-shoot... it is already fixed. ;))
It is a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 lower receiver with a Rock River Arms entry tactical upper.

HOLESCREEK, WHAT rug backing, tell me more of this trick . I need to try it out.

The rug backing trick! I was looking for a way to emmulate snakeskin/scales originally. Don't like the uniformity of stencils for any kind of cammo. Stopped into JoAnn Fabrics and strolled around. (Took the wife with me for cover. )
They sell rubber coated matt in roughly 1/2" squares made to go under throw rugs for non-slip. Costs only a couple of dollars/yard.
Completely disassembled the gun and did first layer of Duracoat then reassembled. Cut pieces of the rug backing to fit an area then spray one side of the backing with some tacky adhesive like is used on post-it notes. Position the backing on the gun and shoot your other layers. I found that by using a little extra matte addative in one paint batch or a little extra hardner in another batch that the sheen of the paint catches light differently and seems to "blend" better with suroundings. Invariably if you spray too wet some paint will make it's way under the mesh, but that's OK. It adds to the effect. -Mike

16" middy, YHM flip-up block, Diamond series rail, Phantom C2whatever FH, Magpul goodies, and a little bit of cursing as a couple springs sent tiny parts across the room and the dogs did not help at all looking. And I need to call Del-ton in the morning to ask about the 5 Pmag Maglevels that are on the packing slip and not in the box...
Anyway... hopefully it shoots as good as it looks.
edit: some more pics from the range and whatnot

Just got done DuraCoating these rifles. They were built by a SSG I know and he gave me a blank canvas in which to work. The full length A2 is a 6.8 SPC, I have it stenciled in DuraCoat on the stock so no OOPS's happen at the range. Not from him of course, for he is an Infantryman.

I can't decide between the ACS and CTR. I like the looks of the CTR better. The ACS has better ergonomics. I don't have a problem with cheek weld since I prefer irons for now. We'll see. MBUS is excellent by the way.

If you go back a page my middy with MBUS rear and CTR is in there somewhere. No complaints about the CTR, locks up nice and solid, but I could use some more battery storage when I get the Eotech on it and switch our the VFG for an AFG. (already have a spare bolt and firing pin in the grip)

Brass deflector, just pops in. Most HP Suppliers sell them. Makes a very neat little pile of brass just forward and to the right. When you're shooting so close to others in NRA HP matches that is a courtesy to not pummel the guy next to you with hot brass. Makes clean up a snap too since all of your cases are in one place.
The one I have is from the original maker in NY, he sold the pattent. Wish Ihad thought of it...

Went through three cutom stocks and finaly chosed the Magpul UBR, Although i had to change to a custom buffer and a spring to make it work properly but is perfect now, also just got an Eotech 3X magnifier to go along with my Eotech 552xr308 and also had to change my rear flip up sight to an ARMS low profile so the Eotech magnifier would fit properly.

Went to the range today with my LAR 8 carbine and was very happy, that
after some time spent sighting the Eotech, I was able to shoot consistent
1.75 to 2. inch groups with my new 3x Eotech Magnifier.
I was running out of time since I got there late and the range officer was being a jerk but I think with a little more time I will get closer to the inch
groupings.
It was also raining lightly on and off all the time I was shooting, don't know if that had any effect at only 100 yards.
I guess I will find out next time if it was me or the rain, probably is me! LOL:America::2pistol:
