Finally, my PTR-91 came in. Just got back from the range.
It was dusk but I managed to put 16 rds of a 20 shot clip of Port through
one ragged hole at 50 yds. Probably could have done better if I wasn't covered by mosquitos. I see why they call it their target model!
The HK clawmount with 4x Hendsolt snapped on oh-so elegantly and
the take down pins press out smoothly with finger pressure just like an HK.
+1 to JLD. Will try to get some pics of rifle and target in the next few days.

Although I like breathing life into an old beater, there's nothing like a new rifle that performs flawlessly with no headaches or excuses!
 Green with envy here.

What's the ballpark price of the PTR these days, wait time, etc. If it's nona my biz, I understand.

:thumbup:Congrats on the PTR, I love mine although it did need a trip back to JLD to align the sights correctly (i bought mine before they became PTR-91 inc.). Has shot like a champ ever since.

I paid $1089 walkout. I have seen the "base" model in some retail shops for $1350 which is, I believe list price. The paratrooper model I have seen from about $1500 in some shops. A year ago you could get the base model for about $700 from SARCO. I ordered mine in early March. It seems that the base model is the hardest to find in these parts for some reason.
Hope that answers your question.

The models that Sarco was selling were the older JLD bull target barrels. They sold the last of them in Feb. All the ones you see now are the new owner models. Still very high quality. Even if you have an FFL the wait for one is 3 to 4 months on a direct order. They have four companies that are preferred distributors and have 1st crack on general production rifles. Base retail is around $1100, to there highend models pusing $1900.00.. At least when I last spoke with a sales rep in the end of May.
I got one last year from sarco, I think it was $700 of the best bucks I have ever spent, but if I was about to spend $1900 I think I would save up a cupple hundred more and get the origional. I have seen some very nice hk91,s for a little over 2 grand.

Using the Hendsolt. At dusk my 56 year old eyes would be guessing at the target. I just got back from the range today and my 15 year old son shot a couple of 2.5" 20 shot groups at 150 yds at quite a quick pace. I didn't shoot
as we stopped in at the range on the way home from Babe Ruth batting practice and I was still gasping for air after throwing 4 buckets of balls to him in the 90 degree heat. One of the other posters mentioned a heavy barrel.
This one has a heavy barrel too.

I bought mine before it became PTR91, because I was still having problems with the cetme but loved the platform. A bit over $900 from a local gunstore. I added the wide forend, bipod, HK stock, rubber buttpad, cheek rest, US made trigger, sear, hammer. My claw mount is a bit out of spec, and I have a cheap scope on at the moment. Not a single malfunction to date.
Aren't you supposed to put quarters in a pitching machine at your age? (same as me):icon_biggrin:

Sha-weeet looking rifle. I want to get one of those cheek pieces as well to get away form having to do a chin weld. Is the one on your rifle the one RTG sells for $40 ? Both of my claw mounts fit perfectly and by feel of the lock down pressure, identically. When I first sighted in I put the windage and elevation dials at 0, snapped it on and the put two touching test shots 5" to the left at 50 yards. Dialed it to the right and it was dead-on. This is of course in stark contrast to my SS CAI Cetme which took much fitting and shimming before I could get it on the bull.

Ive had my PTR-91 for over two years now. Mine is the limited model with the bipod. I paid just over $800 for it in August 2004. Nevada , where did you get your case?? That is pretty nice.
