Hoot, here I was getting all excited about finding a forum member close by and then I looked and saw where home base was and it wasn't anywhere close to Peoria, AZ. Oh well.

I am out in Chandler by the fashion square.
This is a frustrating story. I'm hooked up with a fellow in Peoria, IL who wants to trade a gun he has for one I have. Both of us are private parties. He wants to do a FTF. Fine, I can use a road trip. I offered to drive there from Minnesota and do it. Whoa, he is concerned that I'm not an Illinois resident, nor do I have an Illinois FOID card. I said hey, I have bought guns while visiting other states before, no problem. Nope, he calls the BATF and they tell him any FTF state-to-state transaction has to go through an FFL and even a waiting period. I guess I'm not up on the laws anymore, because that's news to me. I need someone in the Peoria area with this FOID card who could middle-man this for me. Criminy, I work for a law enforcement agency, it's not like I'm some gang'sta looking to rip him off. It's frustrating, to say the least. Especially considering I stood to make out very well on this deal.

Hoot,
I headed your way to float the salt river this summer. Let me know if you're down.

Hoot, I think it may have something to do with passing over multiple state borders... but then again there could be more to it.

hoot, you don't give all the details, but if pistols are involved he is correct.
if you involve a third party you may become involved in a straw purchase which is illegal.
each state also has there own laws. be very careful.
going thru a dealer may be a smart thing in this case.

Illinois gun law's are so screwed up nobody has a real, set in stone answer to a lot of question's here. And then a lot of counties lob on there own crap. My wife asked our local PD and got three different opinion's! Opinion's don't help. I know a lot of people in state that have done face to face without worry but as I read it you do need to go thru an FFL since your in Minnesota for a rifle or pistol. I was going to go into a lot of stuff I have found out in this state, a lot of law's contradict:confused: , it's just easier to go thru an FFL and remove all doubt. Illinois sucks!

One thing to always keep in mind... ALL LAWS ARE WRITTEN BY LAWYERS". And they all take your money to argue what they think the law means... Eighty percent of all legislative bodies consist of elected officials that are lawyers and have Brought use such great things as the Gun Control Act, HEPA laws, Equal Opportunity Employment Laws. There is even a US Supreme Court case form the 1920’s to determine if a tomato is a fruit or a vegetable… I had a discussion with a lawyer once when I explained a ruling being “Lacking Common Sense” and he stated “Don’t look for common sense in the law”, . And after I thought about it, I had to agree he was right.
You got that right. My wife is a Legal Secretary and some of the stories, minus specifics, that she tells me are ludicrous. She prefers to work in Real Estate Law as opposed to Litigation.
