Does anyone know any non-damaging ways to remove the K98 front sight hood? I tried tying two pieces of string to each sight of the hood and pulling, but the string just cut into my hands w/out the sight hood moving (no, it was not thin string like fishing line). I really need this thing off so I can sight in the weapon. Thanks.

Give Tanker 30 seconds and I'm sure he'll answer.

Do you have any forceps handy? I'm thinking sort of reverse pliers....

I just used needle nose pliers, spread them inside the hood, and pushed.

+ 1 on needle nose pliers....that's what I do. You can wrap the noses with tape. Put them inside the hood, then open them up.

Reverse pliers is the best way.

If you are still at hood, you can PM me and come over to Harker HEights and use mine.

I use snapring pliers. Works well for me. Also once I get the windage adjusted I stake the front sight blade so it won't move and then i never take the sight hood off again

Thanks for the plier idea, I'll try that this afternoon. Hey Tanker, did you hear about the tornado in Cove today? Touched down 6 miles from cove and moved south toward killeen but didn't last long. All I saw was a funnel cloud near 190.

Saw the tornado warning and heard Killeen/Ft Hood, but didn't see it....which is a good thing :) Any damage?

Just called my buddies in Cove this morning, no real damage from the tornado, just some branches down in the street. Apparently there were a bunch of people killed by flooding in Cove and Killeen.
