Dad desided he needs another 45 ACP chambered pistol to go with the pile of ammo he has at home. Whats the best deal for around $400 ish or less?
Looked at a RIA 1911, buddy told me they have soft springs and there a bit sloppy. He also said charles daly 1911's are the same way as there made in the same factory. Looked at a high standard 1911, nice but getting near $500
Also held a taurus 24/7, If dad won't :spew: at the sight of a plastic gun it may be the one. Also need to find a price on ruger 45's. Any others?

Take a look at the new Taurus 1911 they are going for 550 around here and I have heard nothing but great things about them. They are a little more than you were looking for, but It's the next step up.

I have a Taurus 45 24/7 and hardly shoot my 1911 anymore. The Taurus is more accurate, has less muzzle flip, holds 12 in the mag and one in the pipe. Fits my hand better then any other pistol I have ever held. The Hienie straight eight sights are excellent. The mags had issues till they upgraded the the springs. Now it is flawless. Talk about the customer support, I sent them 4 mags to exchange, they sent me back eight!

Despite the "plastic gun" distinction, the 24/7 may be the way to go considering your price point...I too have heard that they have great customer service. For the price you can't beat it based on your criteria.

If you wanna get a litty spiffy with a 45, Classicarms.us had a hard chromed ria and i must say at 400 it was very nice looking, and mine shoots great. Now i also bought a slightly used para ordanace p12 . Small but shoots great also, but it cost 550.

For that price, a Springfield XD45 might be the better way to go. Nice guns. Google, and see the rave reviews. Shop hard, and you might get the price down to $475 or so.
I'm not quite in the market for a .45, because I'm still saving. But when the time comes, or I loose patience, it's gonna be an RIA or XD45 for me.

Clint Smith tossed his Glock 45s after testing the SA XD45. That's a major recommendation. Clint Smith = Thunder Ranch.

If you thought the High Standard was nice then the Rock Island will be just as nice. They are both the same gun made in the Philippines.
Another inexpensive but good .45, if you can find one, is a Norinco 1911.

Before they retired from military service in 1955, Argentine 1927's were rebuilt by armorerssin government armories; the 1927 is a copy of the 1911A1 and all parts are interchangeable between the two. I examined recently Sat SA Gun & Archery in St. Albans, WV, it looked brand new and sold for about $430.00.

IMI Baby Eagle in .45. Polygonal barrel, ultra-powerful return spring, very accurate, and in the mid- 400s last I looked. I had the 9mm a few years ago. It was made to fire the carbine(UZI)+P ammo and took two boxes of it before it would cycle lighter loads but that was a known fact up front. I liked their pistols and still do. A few months ago I bought a SIG226 in .40, factory refurb for 549.00 so it is possible a .45 may be obtainable.
Just another .02 to spend!

Smith makes the 625 and 325 revolvers in .45acp.
If you can find one, you can probably pick up used 625 for about $400-ish.

+1 on the Norinco. It's all forged of very good steel. Mine has a trigger pull like a rusty nail, but I'm about to do some gunsmithing to improve that. Except for that, it's awesome -- totally reliable and extremely rugged.

I picked up 2 springfields 1911's(champion & V10) for 500 each at a gunshow. New they would have been closer to a grand each.

I have them all, colts, sa, ria, cd, auto ordinance, taurus, para,
well just about one of each in 45,
one of the first was a ria and is the favorite, the next is the slim hawg para i picked up just recently, however the taurus pt1911 is sweet, great gun right out of the box.
Too bad you aren't here in phoenix, would let you give them all a try to work on the decision, I always need a reason to send some lead downrange.
You can't go wrong with the Rock Island, for lesss than 400 bones you'll have a decent unit. Only problem I have had is a mag lip was bent and created a feed problem ( shouldnt' have dropped it, then stepped on it, being an old fat guy doesn't help)
Anyway, givei it a try, you'll like it.

I have had several .45s in my time, I had a taurus pt.845 that had many great features but it drops mags. I have a highpoint jhp.45 that doesnt always feed, but is super fun to shoot, I have a para ordinance ops stainless that has only stovepiped one round in 1k, super reliable shortbarreled, very accurate, and I have a glock 30 on layaway. all in all if I were to bet my life on one it would be the para to date, but I think the glock will be super. I have shot a full size para 1911 that was sick accurate at 50yds. Para always requires quite a break in period. Highpoints problems are mostly mag probs. I think my Taurus problems were due to the ambi thumb release. Anyone know anything about the XD series? I will let you know how the glock 30goes.

Rock Island. I have a pair, one parkerized 400 corbon, one nickeled 45. My father as two, one parkerized 45and one 9mm tactical. The tactical came with Novak sights, full length guide rod, beavertail grip safety, extended commander hammer, target crowned 11 deg barrel, and the usual lowered and beveled ejection port. All for about $430 from Centerfire Systems. I have had others (Colt 1991A1, Springfield, etc) and I will only buy Rock Islands from now on.

I picked up a citadel 45 for concealed carry awhile back. It has all the features of a custom shop gun without the price tag. I believe it is a rock island manufatured. At 25 yards it holds 2" groups all day long. I shoot a customized para p14 limited and this citadel is just as nice to shoot at 1/3 the cost. Good gun for the money. 500 rounds down range in it so far, zero failures!

If you don;t mind buying previously owned, you can get into the world of govt and LEO trade-ins and SIG certified pre-owns over on Summitgunbroker.com
Easy to deal with, nice guns. Dad got a Beretta 8040G Cougar in .40cal for under 300 bux from that guy, came with 3 mags. It was a govt trade-in (hence the G mark after the model #).
They have one of the cougars in .40 oover there righ now, useed for $315.

Ruger P345s are going for around $460 in SS here in Vegas. The fit is good, the DA trigger is awful. And maybe it's just me, but I can hit targets easier with other pistols. The recoil isn't bad either. This is the only 45 acp Ruger is making now.
