This is a 5" shoot-n-c stick on at 100 yards off a sandbag with irons. All 25 odd rounds were shot with my ptr91kfm-4 and my ghillie built fmp/ptr G-3 using Portugese&hirtenberger surplus. Some 2 rnd groups were touching. The 5" target is actually smaller than the front sight pin at 100 yrds. Both rifles shoot the same POA/POI with 147/150 gr ammo on the 2 peep. This is common with these rifles. I dont use my Z-24 until 300yards. These rifles are more accurate then the human eye can do. PTR is a Thompson center barrel, and the fmp is an FMP barrel.

I,ve learned over the years how to really get the diopter on these type of rifles zeroed correctly. These rifles shoot almost as tight with irons out to 300 yards on a man sized targets. Its just that the human eye cant focus as good at that distance,so the groups will spread alittle more. I have some siluette targets with head shots on them at 300yards also. They are just very fun/accurate rifles to shoot. I,ve been getting better over the years. 41 and my eyes are still hanging in there. Thanks guys.

The trick with irons is not so much seeing the actual small 5 inch part of the target.....it's maintaining the correct hard focus on the front sight while being aware of the relationship with the blurry target image. So long as you practice that, the good groups will come. Its a common misconception that you need eagle eyes. The biggest age related problem comes when people start to struggle to correctly focus on the front sight - if you can't do that, your iron sight groups will never be good.

Ya DAN,I noticed that when I tried to wear glasses. They made my front sight blurry. Its easier for me to aim at the center of the blurr out at 300yrds. I still see very clear at 100,thank god. You are correct on this.

Absolutely....also, when you get out to 300 and 400 yards, the front sight post is as big or bigger than the actual target, so the front sight focus and center of blur relationship becomes even more important. Good thing about the HK/Cetme sights is that with a good zero, the range adjustable drum/paddle takes at least some of the elevation/holdover guess work out of the equation.

Very true bro, glad you are in my neck of the woods. Hope we can get together soon, for some cordite smellin, brass thowin fun. Thanks for your service. P.S. I remember spying a look at your target last time I saw you at manatee, you were grouping as good or better than me with your cetme. I like your style BROWN BEAR. LOL

good shoot'n dbl d...

my glasses make me struggle when I shoot at distance so I end up taking them off and using regular old safety specs.

Nice shooting, ddot.

Once you get used to the diopter sighting system, it really is quite nice. I can hit a torso-sized gong @ 300 yards just about every time with my CETME using the iron sights, and @ 400 yds more-often-than-not with crappy pakistani surplus ammo, which is far better than any of my other non-scoped guns. Diopters are now my favorite style of irons by a wide margin.

That is great shooting, keep the practice up:2pistol:, I'm still getting use to the sights on my CETME, but I have noticed I can shoot tighter groups usually then with my M44 or 870. Liking the CETME sights more and more, wish I could put a set on my 870.

Very nice shooting ddot! I like the diopter sighting system too but I must admit that I use my scope most of the time. I really need to practice with irons.

I was shooting irons at 100 yards last week and was keeping them all in a head size target. If you can do that whatever you are shooting at is pretty much dead. I don't need 1 MOA. I just need that. Good shooting.

AIM surplus had some Hirtenberger instock a few months ago,but it sold out in a couple weeks. I have 1000 rnds of PORT stocked up,it is very accurate. I also am sitting on some australian[very accurate] ,prvi[boxer primed],Igman and some FNB belgian. All is very clean and have the same POA/POI.

I agree SKYDIVE,I dont shoot for groups as much as I do for center mass. I like both rifles to have the same point of aim to give the same point of impact with 147/150 grn surplus. Once you get these sights zeroed properly at 100yrds,the diopter will compensate for bullet drop out to 200 ,300 and 400 yrds respectfully with the turn of the drum. I like em alot. Thanks

Ammo4Guns has Hirtenberger at .75 right now, 400 round cans

The old boys in Fl have it for 1.15

Have you tried shooting in the prone with a bi-pod? With that arrangement, I'm able to hit head shots consitantly at 100 yards with iron sights on my HK91. It is rock solid. I do have Trijicon night sights on my front post.. and that tends to draw my eye down instead of staying at the top of the front sight. I have to work hard to keep the focus just right.

Now finding a near by range that isn't bench shooting only, is the real trick.

This is smaller then a head, this is a 5" stick on bro. With 2 different 91 style rifles. A PTR and an FMP G-3 ghilliebear build. Pretty darn good for 30 year old surplus ammo. Heads are alot bigger than 5",just reminding you. LOL
