The unit is in good working condition and I have used it exclusively for 3 years for geocaching, "land navigation", and traveling. Feel free to ask me questions both before and after the sale about how the device works.

Will it do turn-by turn style directions?
I mean, can you enter an address and have it direct you there?

If anyone wants step-by-step detailed directions how to do these things send me a PM.
No it does not do driving directions. This is an older unit without a map display.
I have used this unit several diffrent ways for driving.
The first way. I would connect the GPS to my laptop (Using a serial to USB connection NOT INCLUDED). I could then use Microsoft streets and Trips recieving live gps data from the unit. M$ Streets and trips does the "work" the GPS is just feeding the data to the laptop. The problems I found with this method...The laptop is a powerwhore and only runs 3 hours on batteries. Without a co-driver it can be difficult to work the computer and pay attention to traffic conditions.
The second option. Using a mapping program on your computer (I've used streets and trips and Garmin mappoint). First identify your start point and end point. Use the mapping tools to create a route to your destination. At each "turn" make a waypoint. Jot down hand written directions with notes like: at waypoint 001 turn right. At waypoint 2 turn left. Drawbacks: can be time consuming on a complex trip. You have to have some itea where you are doing. unless you have a laptop you can't update/change your route.
The 3rd way. You are staying at a hotel in a strange city. Stand out in the parkinglot of the hotel and create a waypoint for the hotel. Go out and get lost. Set the GPS to navigate back to the hotel waypoint. Make "random" turn chasing the needle to get back to the hotel. Not as difficult as it sounds once you play with the unit and understand how it works.

My new GPS is a moving map type. I got the Garmin Legend CX. I picked up the GPS with USA wide topographic maps, 12v power cord, and data cable for $325. I picked up a windshield mount for another $40. Although the topomaps do a fair job for turnbyturn directions i still want to get the roadmap memory card but it is another $200.
So basically it would take about $600 for a handheld GPS that does turn by turn. If you are only looking for something to use in the car you can get a tomtom or other dedicated dash reciever for slightly less money, but I prefer the versatility of the hand held because I can use it when walking in the woods, on my motorcycle, or in a boat.
