Since I have to hit the rack early tonight and go out in the field tomorrow to work. I'll start out by wishing all the members of this site a Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful for...

My life, in this country, the United States of America.

I'm thankful for all those who have fought and died for me and my family to live under a canopy of liberty, justice, equality and freedom.

I am thankful for all those who are currently on watch to preserve that way of life.

I am thankful for my parents, grandparents, my wife, my children, my brother and sisters and my grandchildren.

I am thankful for the abundance of like minded folks in my life who I am proud to consider my friends.

I am thankful for all the adversaries I have endured, for they have kept me alert, and allowed me to accurately measure the difference between right and wrong. Some I respect, some I don't, but never the less, I am thankful for them.

I am thankful for dogs, the finest people on the planet.

I am thankful for my job, and every one I've ever had.

I am thankful to the bosses who gave me the opportunity to feed my family, and enjoy life.

I am thankful for good whiskey, in a reasonable measure, on a night as cold as this.

I am thankful for the many emergency medical people who have been ever kind and indulgent of me at those times when misfortunes or some bad choices I made placed me in their caring arms.

I'm thankful for the friendships I have formed on this site, despite having never met many of you face to face, and thankful that you have shared with me your knowledge, thoughts, experience and advice.

If there are any things you are thankful for, that I may have neglected to point out....I would be thankful to hear them.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Guys and Gals of Military Firearms dot Com.

What Bladworks said with one small change about dogs, a little emphasis on the good whiskey, and praise for those in uniform.

"I am thankful for CATS, the finest people on the planet.

I am thankful for good whiskey (Jack Daniels or Makers Mark), in a reasonable measure, on a night as cold as this."

And some more thoughts on those who are away from their friends and families, in harms way defending this great nation from those who would take our freedom from us. I am truly thankful for the men and women of our Armed Forces who are on watch not just today, but each and every day. May you all come home safe.

Happy Thanksgiving to all on the site from Iraq! We had a Warrior Competition this morning within the Troop. My platoon had the best shooting but we didnt win overall. The dinner spread was amazing. soooooo full.

It sucks being away from your family, as many of you know from serving in the past or present, the men you serve with are just as much your family as anyone. Perhaps even moreso.

I give thanks to those standing on the wall ensuring I have the freedom to do just what I want today..and every day. God Bless you guys and gals and protect you from harm.
I give thanks for the memories of Thanksgivings past. As you get older, things change and people pass. It was a lot more enjoyable being young and ignorant of those things but now it's my turn to make the season something for the kids to remember later.
19Charlie, thanks man! I remember Christmas and New Years standing guard on the East German/Czech border. Not much danger but freezing and really one of my favorite deployments.

This is the real deal.. Not Turkeys, Pilgrims with Blunderbus and Indians with pop corn.

From George Washington 1789

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houfes of Congress have, by their joint committee, requefted me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to eftablifh a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and affign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of thefe States to the fervice of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our fincere and humble thanksfor His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the fignal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpofitions of His providence in the courfe and conclufion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have fince enjoyed;-- for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to eftablish Conftitutions of government for our fafety and happinefs, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;-- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are bleffed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffufing useful knowledge;-- and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleafed to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in moft humbly offering our prayers and fupplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and befeech Him to pardon our national and other tranfgreffions;-- to enable us all, whether in publick or private ftations, to perform our feveral and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a bleffing to all the people by conftantly being a Government of wife, juft, and conftitutional laws, difcreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all fovereigns and nations (especially fuch as have shewn kindnefs unto us); and to blefs them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increafe of fcience among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind fuch a degree of temporal profperity as he alone knows to be beft.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand feven hundred and eighty-nine.

You guys have said everything I could have thought of. Right now, especially a big THANKS to those away from home guarding our liberty.

It's good to remember to be thankful.

I think George Washington's Proclamation should be taught in school right along with the Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and the Gettysburg Address. (And if the schools are no longer teaching this stuff, SHAME on them)

(Dang, guess I need to get me a good dog)
