I was wondering if a single stack WASR can easily be dremeled down to convert it to a double stack (like CAI does)? Has anyone tryed this? I was just looking at prices online and the single stacks are about $100 cheaper and if it is possible to cut down the inside yourself, that doesnt seem to be a bad deal.

Yes, it is possible to mill out the mag well. Century does this every day to dozens of poor unmolested Romanian single stacks. . .

O'course, you also have to add your compliance parts after you open up the mag well....

It wasn't hard when I did my AK. It is not a WASR tho. Mine is an FEG. I had to mod the trigger gaurd, but it was not hard. I have heard of some people taking off too much metal frpm the magwell & ended up with a sloppy fit. I paid 250 for this.

Would I just measure my double stack AK mag well up to the single and trim down from there?

I used the dremel to take just enough metal off so I could insert a mag. Then I used a file to make the edges even. There was a difference in the mag catch so I had to dremel the rivits holding the front of the trigger guard on, remove a spacer & replace the rivits with screws & some lok-tite. Took about 35 minutes from go to stop & wouldn't have taken that long if I had found all the parts I needed before I started.

Please keep in mind, the above procedure was for a Hungarian made AK, not a Romanian one. Your mileage may vary.

Like he said ^^^ Also, keep in mind that there has been some botched jobs. I have seen some wobbly mags, some so bad that it interferred with function. A single shot Ak is not good!!

On opening up the mag well, you also on the wasr, have to open up the reinforceing rails, inside, that stablize the narrower mag. I imagine that century uses a mill rather than just a drummel though. I would take material out slowly if you wanted to go this way, and check fit constantly. Don't forget thought that you have to do a 922 r compliance as the low cap gun come in as romanian built, not US built. Thus you will need to keep the imported number of parts below ten. Thus the us made compliance parts will cut into your saveings.

Thanks Okie, I allmost over looked the parts count due to the low/high cap.
