What are the laws regarding shipping and transportation of gun parts between the United States and other countries??

Im not trying to set up a business, I just need a few mags for a Bersa that are not easily or cheaply found over here. I know for a fact you can order a bunch of parts for a G3/CETME from Spain and its perfectly legal.

Also, what is the deal with bringing them on your person? In a few months, we will have several guests from Argentina, is it possible I could ask one to just bring a few mags for me? Maybe even some spare parts. Is there a process to declare it? Any fees, taxes or bribes?? Government loops to jump through?

I would like for this to be 100% legit and not step over any gray areas. The last thing I want to do is cause any trouble or delays whatsoever for my guests who are visiting for the first time.

I would call ATF Imports branch at (304) 616-4550.

I've bought M1 garand parts from Italy on Ebay. CETME parts from Spain. I beleive in the reading of ATF rules that Barrels and receivers and complete guns are restricted. Hence tohe whole 922r thing. Heck, There is a site I know for a gunshop in Canada and they will sell to and ship to US, but then you go through Customs and ATF filings.

You need an approved Form6 to bring in gun parts, but again, you need to call imports branch about the above situation.

LorDiego, there is something out there about importing small values of parts that are legal, this might be the way to get the parts from your friends from out of the country, there was a thread on the old board, and I think(don't quote me go out and read the stuff on it) the value was under five hundred dollars(edit, its 100 from this site http://www.atf.gov/firearms/feib/guidebook/FEA-Docs/f53303a.pdf (http://www.atf.gov/firearms/feib/guidebook/FEA-Docs/f53303a.pdf), instructions for form 6, general information, paragraph 9b.)and there had to be no ban on the parts in question(thus cannot import banned from import barrels and such). Thus I think the anwser to your question is in the form six instructions there.

Heres the ATF bulletin outlining the change
http://www.atf.gov/pub/qtrly_bulletins/vol3_qb2000/subpartc.pdf

I would still call (or do the research, or write the aft about the specific question) and ask about that limitation for small amounts, but I imagine if you are going to get into a resale situation, you might have far more hoops to jump thur than just getting a few parts for personal use. I am not a expert on this, I just remember the thread, I didn't stay at a holliday inn express last night either. So this might give you a road to look down but confirm it with the folks that make the rules.

P.S. its interesting what you can import from canada to some extent but dont bring in any canadian nuclear weapons, delivery systems and such, those are no no's :)
