A couple of friends and I went out to the range with some toys just in case the match that was supposed to be held tonight was not. As it turns out it was not held so out came the toys. .222 Rem Mag on a sako action , My varmint upper AR-15, My Elephant rifle the .458 win mag which we shot to recover more slugs to test....after they penetrated 3/8" RR tie base plates at 30 yards.

Then out came a 8x56R mannlicher made in Budapest. I have seen these things at gun shows and at one point in time I knew that the void in the base plate was for the empty clip but for some reason I kept thinking it was a trainer .22 rim fire missing the clip DUH. I was given the chance to shoot a clip through it so of course I did and I have got to say that is a nice weapon. what does ammo cost in your area for one of these? how accurate are they in general? I'm thinking this would make a great scout rifle if my swiss 1911 falls through in that role.

Also I was looking at this as a possible conversion over to 7.62X54R...I dunno if it would work or not...its kind of a on the fly idea...I think it might be to short though. (TO THE CASE DIMENSION BOOK)

I love my Hungarian Steyr.

I love all the straight pulls and I am surprised the concept never caught on.

The Steyr is a great little carbine or rifle.
