Just thought I would share....I made this shadow box for my wife last year, and when I made it, I couldn't get a good picture of it. Well with the snow, I had some time this morning, so I played around with lighting and stuff, it's decent, nothing like Henry would do. :icon_biggrin:

But this is her Grandfather, he was in the Sherbrooke Fusiliers, he landed on D-day in Normandy(Juno Beach), in the second wave(probably why he lived), as a gunner in a Sherman tank.

I thought it turned out well, except the hat moved a little after hanging there for a year, I need to take it apart and fix that.

I made a fake pocket for the battle dress uniform, and covered that back with the same material.

He was a proud man, very big in the Canadian Legion(VFW), for most of his life, he gave alot to his Province. The medals are repro's, so is the beret, but I was able to find a real Beret badge, and the Dutch rememberance medal is real.

I had a guy burn the image of the Sherman reverse on a piece of plexiglass, then a list of action that he was in, and I put his picture on the other side under the plexiglass. Shadow boxes are great, I'm going to make another for my wife's running accomplishments.
Enjoy

Awesome job. I'm sure she was surprised when she got it. Do you have a picture of the whole thing, back a little bit? I've been doing some woodworking in the neighbors garage helping him with some projects and wouldn't mind trying one of these myself.

Thanks Guys, that is the whole thing... I bought it from Michaels, $29 on sale, I couldn't/want to build it for that.

Fantastic job and the Sherman and his picture are a nice extra touch..

BTW I liked their old Flag better and I can remember when the changed it.
Our teacher showed us the new Maple flag and we all thought hey they have a nice normal flag like Australia, why do they want this big Leaf flag?

From a Disabled Veteran,

I Salute You for the Honor You Have Given Your Grandfather.

Ken
************************************************** *

What Is a Veteran?

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, reserve or passed on -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact.

Thanks, I don' tknow if you guys care, but there is a book that he is in, it's a complation of stories from Newfoundland WW2 Vets... Pretty good stories from Vets we are losing quite fast.
Here is the book:

Excellent work on the shadow box. Very cool that his story is captured on a book.

A fine job and great collection- Shadow boxes are so neat and individual - it is sometimes interesting to think you life can be summed up in such a small space
