Well I was finally able to get some free time to myself and go to the range with my new AR15. It is a Double Star lower with a Stag upper. ALL I can say is damn this is a sweet rifle. I had a few problems with one HK mag and another mag in which I am to lazy to go get to post. Mag needed some lube inside it I think as the follower got stuck half way. So much for the mag-pull followers. The HK was slightly bent and some pliers should fix that. Now I normally don't do open sights, but I think I did good at 75 yards for the first time with this rifle.

Nice! seems like we got a good little AR club going here--certainly a change from the old cetmerifles site!
With some practice, it shouldn't be hard to keep them all within the 9-ring.

Good shooting tex, if that was a pirate, you got him and his parrot. :) :piratecap:

Just kidding. Good shooting jonboy. My AR only likes bushmaster mags so far, and they aint cheap(but I am). Try different brands of ammo and different bullet weights to find out what she likes, then buy a bunch or load it yourself by the thousand.

Right on dude!

Ol' Red's...I qualified there, and had hundreds of hours of pistol time on that range when I was in Austin..

Congrats Jonboy!

I would suggest USGI mags for an AR15. I tossed the mags that came with my DPMS AR they sucked so bad.

Jonboy, I would agree with tanker on the gi mags, they are inexpensive but work well, you should be able to pick them up easly enough, I have a box full of 20 and 30 rounders that I have collected over the years. The only thing I need to do is replace the followers with non tipping ones.

On the mag issue...the HK mags that I bought super cheap and cleaned up worked fine except for one of them. one if the lips was bent, I guess it got droped. One the other one that failed, I got that from 44mag.com. It is made by CP Products. The 2 20 rounders that I got are USGI and worked just fine as well as the other 3 HK mags. I think I am really hooked on the AR thing now....I am looking for new uppers to trade out. Maybe I will just build a whole new rifle and have 2...or 3.........I have shot AR15's before, but I do not remember them being this fun!!!

They are a blast to shoot. I've never had one to break but there is always the first time. If something does go wrong, it won't take a rocket surgeon to fix it either.
