Chroming is going to add some thickness onto the locking lever. Do you have any concerns with that?

i was thinking about taking it out. then again with out the removal tool it took me a while to get it put back in so maybe just the locking piece and bolt head .

how much heat is involved? would you be effecting hardness?

i believe he said 135-140 degrees f. i will try and see if the will let me take a vid of the process. i decided to to the bolt head locking piece and the trigger, maybe the stock pins just to make em stand out. here is an example of the hard chroming

Hard chromed, pics 5-7 are after bead blasting. in pics 5 and 6 you can notice a darker shade around the bolt head. My buddy said it looked like it alot of heat had been applied to the general area where the extractor cutout is. not too sure how true that is any opinions? you will notice the before pic i shot some corrosive ammo and did not clean my gun so it turned a funky green and black blotched pattern. i hated myself for letting that happen the bolt and carrier along with the kit looked like it had never been fired when i bought it and it was nice and gray. i went ahead and did the firing pin just to make it easier to clean and see if the hard chrome helps any with friction reduction. it looks very nice and i learned that hard chroming is a very tedious process when you are setting up the parts in the baskets. lik i though they just put it in a basket and wala they were hard chromed lol.

Flash hard chrome is typically .0002" to .0005" thick. It won't be enough to change anything functionally and the heat is minimal. I wish I had access to the process, I really like the look.
Is your buddy doing this out of his house or does he have a business? (I can't follow the link, it's locked out on my work computer) Last time I priced flash nickel at a plating house the setup charge of $120 killed it for me, that didn't include the actual flashing of the part.

Well after seeing spectre's gun parts and him telling me that I could get a good deal on having my AR Bolt Carrier Group hard chromed I went ahead and asked him to have it done for me. I even got a tour of Tripp Research. :)

I am truly very interested to see how the chrome holds up on the locking piece, and if it leaves any marking on the rollers, You should take some before and afters if you can. And just for grins, find out if it makes any difference at all in your bolt gap. I know it will be minimal like holes says, but you are adding that very minute amount at 4 different critical points, that just might add some to your gap, so it would be interesting to know what you come up with. In the sake of science:wink:..... Very nice by the way.

I don't no if this too forward but maybe you could ask about group discounts for Militaryfirearms members looking to do exactly what you have done?
pricing for 10 complete carriers +/-bolt heads firing pins.
Trigger components
Push Pins
even complete portions of weapons?
I'm pretty sure that we could post a notice to see if members are interested and check for possibly doing this down the line in a couple of months?
Just your thoughts on this????
I think that some of the members would like to replicate what you have done. I know that I would. I have a company called Chromal that I have been using for small bathes of parts put would love to see another. P.S. there really not gun more aerospace.
