I was wondering how much (if any) accuracy is affected with changing out for different muzzle brakes / Flash hiders. I had an experience where I owned an STG 58 that came without the stoll type flash hider it was pretty accurate w/ my hand loads, in the 1 and under moa range. I had the barrel threaded and a flash hider installed and the accuracy was gone. I couldn't get them below 2" with all the combinations. I have a Winchester Model 70 in 308win that used to have a 26" Heavy Barrel I shot competitive with. I had a load that would run 5 shots through the same hole.I wanted to use it for hunting so I had 3" cut off and the barrel re-crowned. I had to work up a load using a different powder/ bullet combination and I get sub 1/2" moa. I realize that harmonics play a big role in these changes. I was wondering if changing the brakes / flashiders on the AK would have the same changes. I have an A2 type flashider on my WASR 10/63 and I was considering to change back to the slant type or even consider the AK 74 type brake. Has anyone tried different brakes/hiders. Did you notice any difference in the performance?

I had the slant type then put on the AK-74 type. That did not make a difference. Adding something to an already slick barrel would affect the harmonics, good or bad.

What about the retort, was it worse with the AK 74 type?

This is a good question. I have often thought the same thing. I mean if they do not effect accuracy why do they not put flash hiders on PSG1's, and MSG90's?
