I already have a sporterized swiss 1911 that I posted info in another thread HERE (http://www.militaryfirearm.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=966)
And After shooting a friends Steyr M95/34 carbine I think it would serve the better purpose of a scout rifle with a forward mounted scope. Though I have not heard much on how accurate these are right now I would think it would do the trick with a little practice. Ammo is about $80 for 300 which makes it cheaper than most of the other large caliber surplus on the market right now like SA .308 :icon_neutral:

I think either the 1911 or the Steyr M95/34 carbine would serve the purpose well but the steyr is shorter, pushes a heavier bullet (204gr was normal) and is very handy to wield.

Thoughts??? Please keep from crying bubba on me. I'm a shooter the rifle is my tool...I modify the tool so it performs the way I want it to...Though there are some guns I will simply not mess with.

The biggest problem I see is you can't top off the mag. See if you can't find one allready bubba'd, bubba J/K

Personally, I would rather use a K31. It is a much better action, ammo is more available, and scout mounts exist for it. I love shooting my K31, it is my most accurate longarm. I would never alter it or cut it down, but there are alot of them around, and some have less collector value than others. A plain jane K31 with a nasty stock, perhaps one of the crack-stock specials, would make an excellent scout carbine. You get the detachable mag, charger loading, a terrific round, and a very smooth, high-quality swiss action. While surplus gp11 ammo is in short supply right now, there are rumours of a new shippment coming, and commercial loads with softpoints and FMJ's are available.

You make some good points. I wouldn't mind having a bubba'd k31 or 1911...I don't really consider the "sporter" I have now to be bubba's because it was done by a company that did these by the hundreds. And the conversion was very well done.

I'll keep my eye out for some possible DIY project rifle out there but the local shows are done till deer season and the nearest regular show is a hour drive away.

I was on Century's website last night and saw they have the "ding and dent" section but I'm not able to view the prices since I do not hold a dealer license of any kind (yet).

My Enfield Scout started as a sporter as well, I think it must have been done by a company or person in production, casue I have seen at least two that were exactly the same, same front sight base and stock set.

I'm not seeing anything on thier website for rifles.
