If I build my own AK w/parts kit and reciever flat, how or who could I get to bend the flat and press the barrel, the kind of things I dont have, like a press? I know I could do all the basics myself, but I dont have a machine shop. I read through some of the threads but I couldnt dig any other info up, it is possible I overlooked something since I work nights and Iam half asleep at the moment.

Press for a flat, barrel and rivets unless you do a screw job. Two ways to go. Find someone near you that has the press and jigs you can coerce into a build party or Harbor Freight for a press and save for some jigs. The rest is no problem.

Legally, you would need to get a gun manufacturer (A Type 07FFL) to build the receiver. You can do it yourself, but a gunsmith can't.
If you purchased a 100% receiver, then you could get one of the many AK gunsmiths to install the trunnions and press the barrel for you.
To build an AK from a 100% receiver, you really need a press and the proper riveting tools for the trigger guard, front and rear trunnions.

So ...how much are the presses and jiggs going for now days? I guess I'll just buy a built one. I was looking to build a Yugo under folder but I guess my wallet would underfold after paying for all that. Not to mention what my wife would do if she new I bought more "toys" to play with.

Its kind of hard to bend the flat without a jig, it can be done, but its almost not worth it to even try. There are probably a few folks who would lend you a jig, but you'd still need a press. Its easy to press out the barrel from the trunion, once you remove the barrel pin, all you need is a gear puller (they are fairly cheap) at least 6 inches or so. I have a press, and I still always use the gear puller for this anyway. Its easier. For riveting the front trunion, its simple to make the modified bolt cutter rivet squeezers with a dremel. A grinder makes it much easier, but it can be done with just a dremel.
I can easily help you out with any of the steps you need, both with making tooling, and with doing the flat. The main thing though is getting it bent first.
The flat bending jigs are going for around 200 bucks usually. Mine was a bit more because I also have an attachment that will bend the top rails without having to hammer them. Also, you'd find that a trigger guard rivet jig is a 'string of swearing' preventer.. those go for around 80 or 90 bucks I think. I could be off a little. I got my jigs from ak-builder.com

If you have a bulged trunnion Yugo, then you need to buy a receiver anyway. I'm not aware of anyone currently making a jig to bend bulged trunnion flats....but I could be wrong. Either way, its a $200 jig.

You can get a press for $125 and up. You just have to shop around. Check Northern Tool, Harbor Freight and the many other cheap line tool dealers. I use a 30 ton press bought from one of the traveling tool vendors for $125.
As for jigs and how to, I got my jigs and rivets from www.AK-builder.com (http://www.AK-builder.com) . He has tutorials on how they are used. There is a build tutorial called soup to nuts on Surplusrifle.com .

Also check ebay and look for something local.
I bought one for $25 and picked it up.

to remove the barrel pin on a yugo you can use a punch and large hammer like 2 lbs or so, i did this on 4 of them.
also you dong have to completely press the barrel out, just enough to smash the rivets
you can use a boltcutter jig to smash most rivets, i even used a c clamp (small) to smash some hard to reach and it worked great, i just had to use the piece of metal to support the rivet head, you cant tell the rivet heads look perfect
you could probably borrow a press or use all-thread to remove and reinstallt he barrel, the yugos are easy, the romy kits are harder to do with hand tools

Chris, some one makes a eighty precent receiver though, out there, I have seen pics of it and there were links to the website on the old board selling it. It looked like you still had some what of a trick build to finish it though.
