gas port question?

so when an ak 47 barrel is drilled for the gas port, do they aim at not hitting the rifling or do they just bore wher ever is needed?

if they go through the rifling, does it have an effect on the accuracy?

Examination of a few of my AKs with a borescope shows all of them in the groove. That said, I know of posts on other forums of folks that missed and put them through the land, and their Ak seemed to function just fine. More then that I do not know.

i can see one or the other but when you drill half way through both the groove and land it would make a nice gouge spot.
