do you think a 303 rifle could be rechambered for 54r but turn the rim down on a 54r cartridge and still use the same bolt without having to open up the bolt face?

the 303 is .540 and 54r is .570 inches in diameter

Kevin, for a bolt action rifle, that would be alot of work on brass cases. I wouldn't want to try to do it for a semi auto for sure. That said are the rims the same thickness, and how much relief is there at the base of each cartrtrage will have some effect too. That said you might be able to do it, but buying a nagant is so much easier.

i was thinking about this for my bren, i can get someone to ream it for 54r but finding someone to machine the bolt would be hard, i could do it if i only had the tools

it has to have the bolt face opened up and some metal removed to create pockets to allow inserting it into the gun. This blocks the FA bolt from being used

I know Sherman does conversions for the Vickers locks. Maybe he can do something for you?
