Picked up a NC Star 3x9 scope with ballistic drop compensator out to 500 yards. I know its a cheapo, paid $90 for it at the gun show. I then ordered a NC Star quick release riser from http://www.tippmannpros.com/nc-star-marfq-ar-riser-w-quick-release-weaver-mount.html Cost $32 shipped.

The riser was better then I thought it would be. Adjusted easy for the rail and tightened good with no slop. Still up in the air on the scope. It sighted in fine. But I had a hard time focusing thought the scope. Not sure if it was the scope or new contacts I'm using. Scheduled another eye exam, as I think they have my script off. As the scope looks clearer with my glasses. Just didn't have them at the range.

Still tightened up my groups at 100 yards. Next I'll try the drop compensator at longer range to see how well it works. Ran out of time today.

Federal .223 FMJ, 55 grains value pack stuff. Think I'll try some others to see if that group will tighten up some. I also had some Tula, but she didn't like it. Several FTF with it. Not so with the Federal.

Since you are using factory ammo, what is your barrel twist? That will determine what ammo to buy so you can fine tune your groups. For example, if your barrel twist is 1:7 you may want to get the heavier rounds, 69-75gr range.

1:9 twist. 16 inch barrel. I was thinking of trying something a little lighter?

With 1/9 twist you should be good using 69 grain. Depending on the barrel maybe even 75. My 1/9 almost shoots the 75 grain fine.

Def don't use lighter than 55 grain :)

You should be fine with 55-69gr ammo...leaning more towards the middle. Depending on how much you're willing to spend on ammo, buy several different weights and see what your rifle likes the best...it's no guarantee that what works in Person A's rifle will work in Person B's rifle...all barrels shoot just a tad bit differently.

Rule of thumb Monkey..

Fast twist----Heavy bullets

Slow Twist----Lite bullets

fast 1/7 69-75
med 1/9 55-69
slow 1/12 40-55

again as was said...can vary a little rifle to rifle but pretty much the standard I have seen a 1/7 group some 40's really great groups....go figure.
