Just like the one weasel master got: Springfield Armory M1A1, Serial number is 18XXX, front site is site base is marked NM 062. Bolt is marked 7790186-SA with F00062 below it. Its in a GI wood stock (only mark found is a circle P on the pistol grip so far). Last year I traded two pistols for an Auto Ord semi-auto Thompson (my guns were about $900). Today I traded the Auto Ord for the M1A1.
It isn't the prettiest (yet) but its mine!

Nice... and nice job on the trade-ups to get it. It's "pretty enough" for me! I imagine that wood has some nice grain hidden under the years of use.:America:

Very nice. I think it looks great. I would change very little. I especialy like the number painted on the bottom of the pistolgrip.

cw04uscgret, congratulations on your new M1A. For research purposes, what are the markings on the rear end of the bolt? Thanks for the photos posted above.

I would have made that trade in a minute. You got a great looking rifle there.

YES! I do see a nice wood grain pattern there that you could easily bring out... Without changing much of anything else...

now I need a foolproof method of cleaning the wood without losing all the character...what say you guys, mineral spirits and 0000 steel wool?

I have had good luck with the Formby's conditioning furniture refinisher and fine wool.
