had a case crack in half in my gun and bought a stuck case extractor off of ebay for it and scratched my head because i couldnt get it to work. Come to find out its just a tad to short. Took the head and rod out of the body dropped it down the barrel and used a rod and easily knocked it out but was just wondering if theres a better brand or a recomended place to buy a good one.

Look for a government issue (any government) 7.62x51 broken case extractor.

If you look for "brand names", you're probably gonna get a crappy civilian one.

Sounds like the broken case may have been too long as well. That may be why the head came off in the first place. Was it factory ammo or a reload? The cases grow allot each time fired in these things.

What he said.^^^^^ I tried using a 303 boke case extractor I got & could not get it to work. Took out my GI 30.06 extractor and it came right out.

do me a favor .. i want a broken case ... yep just the case... i want to see how and where they break ...( ideal here) :icon_biggrin:

i have never ever in 20 thousand plus rounds had it happen ..

when it's slow at work i make all sorta neat gizmos... mechanical engineering degree not included ....

and if i can make something easy and cheap enough ... hell I'll give you guys a few to try out .....

just trying to make Amerika cheaper and funner to shoot ........ rich ...

Richl, I am not sure if you could make a broken case extractor for much less homemade than they cost to buy(though being a engineer I like to think about tinkering more than I get to do it), but heck you can make your own broken cases by just cutting the head off, and maybe just a couple more up the case, they useally though fail at the weak point in the drawing process where the head stops and the case wall starts, lots of metal working there to make that form.

sorry but i allready tossed the case. Got to agree though for 12 bucks its hardly worth wasting the brain cells on.

The USMC used the same ruptured case extractor for both 30.06 and 7.62X51 NATO (.308 Win). So if you get a mil spec 30.06, say from CMP or Fulton, it'd work for both. .303 is the right diameter, but a hair short... (If I remember right. ) Especially after the next round tried to go in to battery and shoves the neck of the broken round deeper...

Yep, if ya get a 30.06 case extractor you can use it on 06,08 & 303. Heck, I threw my 303 extractor away.

Numrich has everything, don't they?

I have one of those little ones that supposedly break, but I've had it fo ryears and never needed to use it. I keep the flutes mighty clean, and I don;t shoot commercial or Indian ammo.

Thats is what I posted ...a M1919a4, caliber 30, extractor :) Those little Tapco ones are a joke.
