in vietnam we lived in a 3 story villia. ( the govt paid for it). there were 9 air force and 2 army guys that lived there.
we had a cook. ( she cooked for the french when they were there fighting). we had 2 downstairs maids and 3 upstairs maids. they cleaned, made the beds, wash and ironed our uniforms and polished our boots. we paid for the maids and the cook.
down stairs on the first floor we had around 24 ARVN troops that lived there and were their to protect us and guard the villia when we were not there.
we had some live in girl friends. a couple we knew were VC and a couple we suspected were. we used them to know when we were going to be hit at night. if the 2 we knew were VC didn't show up it was a quick hit and run attack. if none of them showed up it was a stay up all night and be ready. it was going to be bad and usually was.
a couple days before tet 68 they stopped coming and we were ready. it was a big battle. lasted for 13 days. they over ran us the first day and we were able to get to the air field. ( but that is another story).
only 2 of the girls came back after tet. the rest were either killed or went full time VC. we never saw them again. the cook came back along with the maids.
so, my friends it is good to have local ladies around at times. it helps the local economy a lot.
HECK! if it had not been a war going on it would have been great.
