They are a direct drop in replacement for your wood stock.

2 things to watch out for is (1) the rear mounting screw. If the rear screw is to long, it will bind against the folder knuckle preventing it from being closed. Easy fix is to just shorten the rear screw and you are set to go.

Other thing (2) is that the screw heads on the pan head screws (show in the picture) might have to large a diameter to fit the front hole. Simple fix is to reduce down the diameter by chucking the screw in a drill and turning the head against some sand paper.

If you are missing the screws, have no fear as they should be easy to find at the hardware store in one of those specialty binds Mine is a Romy with push button and the local Ace hardware store had the screws.

I like the folder, for function as it does not get in the way of the any of the fire controls. Not as comfortable as fixed stock to shoot however. As was stated, a drop in fit.

On getting a folder, if they have the clip on butt pads, look at them, my folder is harsh on the shoulder some what. Also what you will actually see at most shows is the Romy folder, is based on the E. German one.

The E.German stock requires you to remove and reinstall the PG because it has a leaf spring block arrangment. The Romy has a coil spring, and simply replaces the butt stock.

If they don't have any at the gunshow, you can always order a Romy here.

What is the length on these? I need a longer stock and I want a side folder. And also what does the pad look like and how much length does it add? Thanks!

It's called a "grenade launcher butt pad" and it adds an inch (maybe a squidgen more)

You can also find the pads online here, quite a bit cheaper.

Also the E.German stocks are a bit shorter then the Romy.

Some one correct me if I am wrong, but there are the tantal stocks out there too, which are polish and shorter, I imagine though they wont be many of them alone, like the numbers of romy and east germans brought in.

Went to the gun show today and There were lots ands lots of vendors, most were over priced, some were fair but only one guy had the side folding stocks and all three looked like they had been stored in pig slop. It seemed the stocks had pits or rust (something in the metal). So I gave up on that so my next quest was to find an AMD Hugarian side folder rifle. Notta, the only thing out of the hundreds of vendors I could find were over priced WASRs. There were some older AKs Polys, and some other pre 90s that were around $600+. Some vendors were asking as high as $600 for a WASR with an underfolding stock. One vendor in paticular had a WASR 10 rounder( I had planed to do surgery on the magwell and parts count) he offered $250 for it, so I told him if I didnt find an AMD I would be back for the WASR. So of course after walking over 200 tables and back, he had sold the WASR. Oh well. I guess I will wait it out till KnobCreek MC Shoot in Oct. I just feel like a kid in a toy store at the gun shows and I want to throw a tantrum if I dont get anything when I leave. Oh yea, all the ammo has allready seemed to have gone up again in just a few months. I guess its keeping up w/gas prices.

"I like the folder, for function as it does not get in the way of the any of the fire controls."

Question in that. I'm a left hander. If you'd be so kind the next time you're holding it with the stock folded, could you check to see how the clearance is for a left-handed grip? I wanna put one on my WASR Hi-cap, which has the Romy front grip, but I want to be sure it is comfy...the Polish and Yugo UFs are not so comy on the left handed since the rear strap point can dig into the top of the trigger hand.

Found a folder in Tulsa yesterday, looked new, and the vendor wanted fifty out the door, so thus picked up another for one of my aks, for sure.
