View Full Version : Hey from Georgia
Hey! I've just found this forum and am darn glad to be here. I've been a shooter for 31 years (doesn't seem possible but I'm 48) and went on a hiatus from 1995 till last year. Previously I was into HK and other semi-auto pistols and rifles ranging from Smith to Steyr and HK. Now that I'm back into shooting I've built my collection back up (sold it back in 95) to handguns ranging from HK, Steyr, Walther, Beretta, CZ, Ruger, Glock, FN and a nice group of long guns. My emphasis seems to be on main battle rifles as I've added a Romanian AK, a FN/FAL, a PTR91, an AR a modified SKS and other odds and ends like Saigas. My Bushmaster M17S doesn't count, but it's a great rifle nonetheless. Just yesterday I joined the ranks of Cetme owners with a buy on Auction Arms. It's great to see a forum like this and it was incredibly valauble in answering numerous final questions upon which I based my buy of the Cetme.
I look forward to being part of the forum and learning as much as I can from your experiences, and to offer my own comments when appropriate.
To sum it up, when I pick up a battle rifle I can almost imagine how it must have been to depend on such a rifle: desperate men in depserate times, in desperate situations. Life and death. These weapons are no-nonsense tools originally made to do one thing. There is a simplicity in that which I find to be very appealing.

Welcome aboard...you sound peachy!!!
Peaches will be few and far between this year. We had the Easter Freeze and now we're in a drought of "Biblical" proportions.
C'mon rain!

An M-17S? Have you done anything to the muzzle yet? I found that the 2 lock nuts come off and the sleeve around the barrel with them. A standard AR flash hider screws right on. The sleeve is there to hold the reciever end cap in place (and prevent the barrel from cooling). I put a set screw in the reciever and used it to lock the end cap in place. Thought about just leaving it off and allowing the barrel to fully float.
The one complaint I have with the M-17 is the smoke in the right eye out of the ejection port. Mostly solved with the use of dry lube so there is no oil smoking off.
What kind of optic are you using?

Too bad about the peaches....Missouri just got out of a drought that technically lasted 2 years....last year was hell on my pumpkins....well, I only planted 6, but they didn't make it.
Looking good this year though....

What part of GA? NE corner for me. We got a long way to catch up with Texas and Arizona. Not to mention the $$.

Hey Robocop. On the end of my M17S barrel there are two rings screwed on each with a slot cut into them. Is this what you are talking about? If so I'd love to attach a flash hider. How hard are the rings to get off?
As to optics, while I haven't shot the Bushpup yet I current ly have an Aimpoint clone on an A.R.M.S quick detach. I'll probably end up going with an Eotech Holosight. It seems to be the most appropriate for the gun's design. Have you shot with the integral iron sights? Are they worthless?

I'm from Alpharetta in far north Fulton County (soon to be Milton County!). I recently found the DNR outdoor range at Wilson Shoals and will be shooting up there. They had limited hours while they did some construction there back in May and hopefully they're finished.

Open at noon or 1pm Wednesday & Sunday. Wilson Shoals is decent for a public/govt range.
Nothing going on the last two times I went. All tables but one open Saturday afternoon. They were going to have DNR types running the range but that must have fell through.
If you're interested in a club with a lot more to offer, try Elbert Gun Club. A bit far for me but they have it all including trap and skeet in the old quarries. A lot of comp shooting on the rifle range which kept us from shooting the last time. They let us shoot the .22's on the pistol range though. dr
