I'm currently on vacation for a few days and was calling around to some local gun and pawn shop. I always ask for surplus .308. Most of time I strike out, sometimes I find some. I called all of the shops in the area and only one had some.
When I got there, they had a couple of cans of Indian. One can was open and priced by the bandolier, the others were sealed and priced by the can.
The 50 round bandoliers were $21.95ea, which didn't surprise me that much.
The 400 round cans were $199.95.
I did some quick math in my head...400 rounds...50rd bandoliers...8 bandoliers per can....8 x $22 = $170 something. Something's not right.
I asked the guy if the price on the cans was right. He chuckeled and said, "Yup." Said that most of the time they sell it by the can, then chuckeled again.
I guess now I have to carry a calculator with me just to be safe.

Actually its not just gun stores and such that price that way, look at stuff at the grocery store sometimes, the bigger aint always the cheepest way to buy stuff, I am always doing the math in my head or at the store checking the unit pricing and converting.

Yea, I know. It seems to me that just about everyone is trying to rip me off. I guess the only reason I can't stand it when gun shop operators act that way is cuase gun shops are few & far between around here & they think they can get away with a lot of hokus-pokus. I like givin them a hard time when ever I go to one of the local shops. I only get powder & primers from them.

I meant to add in the post above that they are mostly bubba type people who operate them & seem to always talk to you like you don't know a damn thing. I guess it is really thier attitude that gets to me the most.
