Howdy. I have a DPMS Tuber. The floating handguard resembles a suppressor with a grenade launcher grip. This does not allow for the addition of any type of front sight. The receiver top is flat with a rail. The gun is easily scoped but I would like to shoot the gun with oron sights, from time to time. While i will be adding another less unusual upper to the gun which will allow for open sight shooting, that won't be for awhile.

My question is whether anyone has tried the JP short range tactical sight on an AR on the upper rail position. The intended use is that it be attached on the handguard for quick target acquisition out to 60 yards, but I'm thinking that it could go on the receiver rail at the rear and accomplish the same thing. Has anyone tried this or know of any other way that I could easily iron sight my Tuber, without any drilling?

I haven't used the JP short range site but do have a suggestion get a front and rear folding site and put the rear site as far back as possible and the front as far forward I believe that this will give you at least the same if not more sight radius as the JP site. You would also still be able to use a scope if the sites are lo pro.

I had thought about a front and rear flip-up sight, but the price will be between a minumum of $200 to over $300 depending on the sight. The JP sight was more attractive as it is both front and back priced at $100.

I'm starting to think that the easiest and best fix will be to pick up a very lightly used Bushmaster upper with standard iron sights that is available to me for $400. Heck, it's jsut a matter of popping two pins!

I agree! Today I picked up a second upper, a Bushmaster 14.5 inch heavy AK upper. It may not have been my first choice (although AK muzzle break is kinda cool, but welded on) but for the kind of shooting I'll be doing it's fine and at a very favorable price. It's a flat top so I can now add a rear flip-up sight or go with a scope, or both. In the end I'll have a lot more for not that much more money.

Problem solved. I can see having yet another upper for this gun if the right one presents itself.
