Man, I'm so darned refreshed its not even funny. I'd put in my 2 weeks notice at my old job, and last monday was my last day. Well I decided to take a week off between the old and new job to spend a little time with my dad. Ended up picking up two of our project cars from the welding shop and brought them back to the house to work get some things going which was great. I've now got my 68 stang sitting in the back yard just waiting for the 302 and tranny to be dropped in. Dad brough his (cringes) 83 el camino (god that thing is ugly) home to finish up as well.

Later in the week we went down to the river near Jacksonville NC so we could work on a few things down at their place on the river. While around Jacksonville I made it a point to hit every single pawn and gun shop I found, in search for cheap ammo, parts, or just anything. I ended up finding a Mossberg 500 Persuader and picking that up fairly cheap. Also saw a few things that were interesting while I was down. Found some wolf 7.62 x39 for around 4.50/ box so I picked a few boxes of that up as well. Found one shop that had a couple of Hk 91's and a cetme back on the bench, the guy also had an FAL sitting on the shelf mixed in with a bunch of AR's. He also had a G3 od green partial kit sitting in one of the cases, and this looked to have come off a never fired G3... I wanted the darned stock set so bad it hurt, but he wasn't about to come off of it. One of the more interesting things I found was a G3/Hk91 .22lr conversion kit sitting in a random pawn shop. Darned thing was complete in its case and looked brand new. Of course it had a nice little pricetag (I think 600) on it. I ended up getting my Mossberg from the first place we went, because after shopping around they were the cheapest by about 75 bucks. If you are ever near Morehead NC or heck even around Jacksonville look for Flatwoods Outfitters, they've got one heck of a nice place w/ some pretty nice ranges and just an overall great selection. I think I'll be going back to them to get my lower for my AR build since they were only about 10 bucks more than I've found online, and buying from them I wouldn't hafta pay an ffl for the transfer.

Anyway, pics of the Mossy will be up as soon as I get back to my apartment with some decent internet. Forgot to mention the new job I got comes with a 3.00/hr raise and free insurance so that = lots more gun time soon

If a week off would just last as long as a week at work!!!
Next time I'm in between jobs I'm taking 6 months off!

I agree if you are in the area you should stop at Flatwoods. It is easy to find too, but it is actually in Hubert, NC. I used to shoot there all the time growing up in Midway Park which is just outside of Jacksonville, NC. I am going to be back up that way around Thanksgiving and can't wait to go there as well as check out the pawn shops and flea markets. I just wish I can find 7.62x39 for that price around here. It is going for $6.99 a box here:eek:

Walt, keep in touch with me, I may be down that way around thanksgiving, maybe we could get up a nice shoot down at Flatwoods if you had time. I can't recall the name of the shop that had the cheap wolf... I know its directly across from the mall in j-ville in the same shop as a quizno's. He said his case price had just gone up so everything would be going up a bit when he ordered next, so I felt the need to pick up a few boxes... Wish I'd had enough cash to get a couple of cases, but with the shotty on my mind I had to save a bit for that..

I just got back in from running about 40 shells through it... and I'm in love... now only a few more things to mark off the list before I make a whole new list:2pistol:

I'll make sure I will keep in touch. I never been in that shop. I will have to check it out when I am there next time. What type of 7.62x39 did they have? I may send my Dad over there to pick some up for me since they will be coming down here in a few weeks. What are the laws up there on selling to out of state residents (namely Florida)?

I think NC can sell for FL residents, I'm not 100% on that I'm sure one of the other NC guys around here can tell you on that one.

The 39 he had was wolf military classic, and he also had the wolf black box stuff for a bit more, then some other that I can't recall the brand for a few cents cheaper than the mil. classic

Also.... Pic time

of guns, that is. ;)

-->Man, youse guys are getting bent over the bbl on ammo prices there. At gunshows, I can get Wolf or Brown Bear for 16-19cents per round...no more than 20cents per.

you might check online at places like Sportsman's Guide, Cheaper than Dirt, AIM surplus, and others for cheaper prices than what you're paying...

remember--buy by the case. that's where the price breaks.

Flatwoods, I'll remember that.

As a contract tech writer, the only real vacation I get is in between contracts.

^yea, it still a bit for ammo, but with my old job, buying by the case left me few chances to actually buy, so I'd get a few boxes here and there when i had the itch to shoot... now with the new job I'll pick up a couple of cases in the next week or two
