You guys are probably tired of me writing about my A1 build, but I have to say, I love this rifle!
I put another 80 rounds through it today, putting me at about 500 trouble free rounds. It is a blast to bust clay pigeons at 100 yards.
The Hakko 4x21 scope works great. Once you zero it, you can set the windage dial to zero and finger adjust it on the fly. Of course, it has the finger adjust bullet drop compensator as well.
This cellphone pic shows a 100 yard target fired without much effort using Federal American Eagle 55gn FMJ "factory seconds" (!)

Nice! I have the Bushmaster A3 with removable carry handle and stainless match barrel & a DPMS A2 upper with a heavy target barrel. I really miss my A1 build. The upper was simple and light as well as the lighter barrel. Something I could carry all day and was a dream to point and shoot. I got so carried away with bench shooting that I forgot how good the A1 is.
Nice shooting!

I have five AR-15's and three are built to A1 specs. I just really enjoy the light barrel and slim design of the A1 upper.
I know they are not as accurate, but hey it's a combat rifle, not a sniper rifle.
That's what my HK 91 is for!!

Looking great Jeff....kindda tempted to make a trip to Ohio Ordnance Works to pick an upper up. You can't beat the price that they're asking.

As long as there are pics I'm always interested  I like the traditional look of yours amd65.
Ok, I'm an AR newbie. I've built a few AK's, but no AR's. For years I swore I didn't want one, but now I do.
Soooo....what all is involved in building one of these (briefly)? What would I need (kit, receiver, tools)? I was just at OOW last week for some AK receivers BTW.

there's a walk-through on building in the stickies... all thats needed is a roll pin punch and some various little tools that everyone pretty much has.
its more assembling rather than "building"
uppers typically come assembled, but you can build those as well if you wish.

jfowl is quite correct--it is very much assembling rather than building.
I havn't checked OOW lately, but there has been a guy on AR15.com's equipment exchange selling A1 uppers. There seem to be a few around right now, gun broker too.
