I sort of live in Ft. Hood, but I probably couldn't find it on a map if i tried. I only lived there for 3 months before I came here, and I hardly ever got off post while I was there. Anybody know any good places around there to shoot? I'm coming home on leave in a couple weeks and i've been working on my list of guns to buy with all the money i've saved up.

You need your commander's sig on the application, depending on your rank. The MP station will have the details, it's been too long since I registered mine to remember. I think the break point was SSG, but I could be wrong.

From what I have been told by some one makeing their own, and used to sell the suff, its just powered aluminum.

As for thermite, I always thought it was iron vs aluminum.

Phirebug, you need to goto the PMO, get the form, fill it out and get your Commander to sign it. Your weapons have to be stored in the arms room since you live in the barracks.

I don't live in the barracks anymore. I got me a wife! I thought I told everybody. Lotsa things happening all at once I guess, musta forgot to tell you guys. I got married right before we deployed. Can the Rear Detachment commander sign it so I can shoot at the post range while I'm home? My commander will still be here when I'm there.

JONBOY, where are you at in Round Rock? and where do you shoot at?

I do all my shooting on a friend's land down south off of William Cannon east... right across the street from Pilot Knob.

Ive heard good things about Eagle Peek or Eagle Pass whichever it is... supposed to be a really good range.

Round Rock...off 620. I only go to Red's now since I got a shooting card for xmas. I don'r care for reds a whole lot. I have choice word for them ever since they offered to buy a gun from me for $400 less than what it is worth. They charge way to much and do not put enough back into the range. Now Eagle Peak is super nice. I like their set up a lot, but I don't get the no FMJ's allowed.

I wouldn't mind heading up to Eagle Peak sometime to shoot some skeet or something along those lines. Im just about clean out of 7.62 nato, so the Cetme won't be shot for a while... that and the fact that as Jonboy said, you can't shoot fmj there.

I got a funky work schedule too.... nights one week, days the next... sometimes both... working on different highways is a bitch really.

Im working on the Yager Ln bridge at I35 right now... If yall happen to be cruising under that bridge, and see some gringo in an extended cab dodge with TXDOT on the side... its more than likely me.

Ive never liked Red's either, though Ive shot a couple rifles there for groups... I find it a much better use of money to drive down south to my buddy's place than spend $14 an hour or whatever it is at Reds.

Next time someone's heading to a range around here for the day or something, just pm me, and if Im not working, Ill try to make it out there.

From what the workers said at the Manor shooting range was the owner was sick and the wife would not sell the range to the workers at a resonable price. Land in that area is fetching a good penny these days and I am guessing it will be sold to a land developer. I like that place to a point, however, No shooting guns and drinking beer like they did on the skeet range there. I know I have broken the rule before, but still....they don't mix.

The Austin Skeet and Rifle range on 290 was leased by a guy named Stan. He used to have the range on 2222 at city park road til the rich bastages in Jester Estates pressured the City of Austin to shut him down. The two elderly women who owned the property sold out to a group of Russian investors who are going to build a housing development there. The lead abatement was started but mysteriously stopped possibly because of the wet conditions and the clay soil.

The only other option East is the Austin Rifle Club (Private, Members only)

Which corner was the time capsule on?

Jane Long is a pretty good walk from Bellaire.

It was on the northwest corner of the intersection of Bellaire and Hillcroft.

I lived 1 block east of Hillcroft, 1 block north (northeast of the intersection). Each school day I'd walk west to Hillcroft and cross the street and then head south to Bellaire Blvd. When I got to the intersection (NW corner), I'd wait at the light to cross. The time capsule was right there on the NW corner.

Best I can remember, it was a large concrete block approx 3' high x 4' wide and 5-6' long. Had a plaque on it that explained what it was etc but don't remember any of it.

This took place in 1968 & 1969 when I attended Jane Long, also walked past a drive-in movie theatre on the way to school. It was on the north side of Bellaire Blvd. I wanna say it was at the intersection there at Hillcroft but that's a lil fuzzy.

I've wanted to call in to an AM talk show in the past and ask if anyone recalled it, KTRH comes to mind, but never did.

I'm not familiar with Austin but I'm sure someone here would be, or maybe some one with land can have a shoot there

I just moved to the area so I'm not really familiar with anything around here, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for a good place.

my Gpa lives down there, but I don't know anything about the area though.

I wish I could provide the land but I just sold it. Central Texas shoot! I go to Lyton Springs to shoot. Best place around Austin. Lonestar shooting range. My sister of all people turned me on to the place.

I live in Georgetown, just north of Round Rock. Anyone else shoot at Best of the West? It has great tactical bays and you can shoot from a concealed holster.

If Texas ever secedes from the U.S., will you guys let me immigrate? I promise not to be a welfare cheat, druggie, or otherwise make trouble. I was born in Kansas City KS, but the Yankee has long ago worn off me.
