so i desided that my atempt to make a semi sten fell short of cool. actually it blew d!ck. so i chopped off some and started having some fun grafting together parts and quicky relized it almost looks like a mg13. huh? cool. i would have made the stock more t shaped like it but then it is useless as a rifle.

anyways i put the ever trusty imported ak fcg in her to see what would work. ya, all of it works. well almost, i had to make a monster disconnector for it to function properly. the original is too short for the receiver hiegth. anyone ever made there own us fcg????? ya baby!

i used a british fal pistol grip (i think it is). welded up a great barrel extention to get her up to 16.5". i need to make some better fcg pins but the screws work for now.

the sten bolt is cut at the recoil spring mount nipple. drilled the firing pin hole
from the back and the old pin got ground and drillled through the front. i took my dremel to the center of the bolt because it is very hard to connect the two ends. i drilled a hole in the cocking handle and it trues up the rear portion of the pin.

i need to get some more tube to make a top cover like a grease gun.

i test fired it today before making a good amount of mods and it did well. i think if it runs great i might sbr it.

Needs a Dust cover!! You can buy STEN stocks pretty cheap, I think you should have made it a pistol. Good Job

That is neat. It would look fine finished up as is but I'm sure you are not done yet.
I need to get one of those home milling/lathe machines! I'd never come out of my basement.

How can you SBR it and stay OK with the Feds?

turbothis
06-10-2007, 11:22 PM
well i would sbr it then chop off the barrel extention. i have no idea how to get a sbr stamp but i am sure the guys on here could help.

i wish i had a lathe BAD! i have about 1 week in thinking and building so far. i have a real job too.

and for WildBillCody, i dont really agree with any sten stocks. if i go the pistol route down the road, my chop saw will help whack off the stock.

i forgot to mention that the bolt is riding on the rails of the receiver and then it slids home into the tube. smooth buddy.........

One of the telescoping AR15 stocks?? An adapter to put it on should be easy for you. OR, A wooden UZI stock from CTD, they are cheap! OR Fab up a "copy" of the ACE stock for the AR. Somebody shut me up!
You keep going the way you are and never mind us! Just keep the posts coming on this one. It is interesting and I'd personally like to see how it turns out!

turbothis
06-10-2007, 11:39 PM
holy crap! the uzi stock! it would match great. i think centerfiere has some.

any one good at photoshop??????????????????????????

i looked and i think i need more receiver length for the uzi stock to play well. what is this ace stock?

As we used to say in "da hood," you be one smart mo-fo. I wish I had your kind of smarts for stuff like this! Looks great!

thanks, i could not do it with out a lot of other rifles to look at and get ideas. plus this site realy makes the finishing touches.

what is this ace stock?

Ace Ltd, USA (http://www.riflestocks.com/index2.htm) makes some of the best damned aftermarket stocks you can get.

drine
06-11-2007, 07:47 PM
I'll get one when I get an AR:icon_neutral:
It is a "skeleton" type stock not unlike what you have made. If you see one, I'll bet you could copy it.

Can you put a spacer at the back? Enough to get the length for the UZI?

I spent about 4 minutes with this, could be much better. I think you will get the idea.2589

You can doooo ite!

Your getting my creative side going. Too bad I'm on double-secret, high speed, low drag over time at work.

thanks for the help ranger. looks alright.

i shot some more rounds thru it and had some problems. the firimg pin gets plugged with the primer after firing. i think i have to weld up the pin hole in the bolt and drill it smaller.

i shot winchester white box from wal-mart.

i have the final stock figured out! a suomi butstock cut down some and then i can weld the mounting tabs onto the back of the receiver.

hey ranger, can i get another photo chop session out of you????? this time with the suomi stock?

i have a stock on gunbroaker i am going to get for cheap.

drine
06-12-2007, 08:34 PM
I checked the gunbroker site to recall how they looked. I'm still with you.

Turbo I am very impressed and that is a very cool weapon. To me it looks like a Owen without the front grip.

WildBillCody
06-12-2007, 09:37 PM
Except the Owen mag stuck out the top.

Arizona Ranger
06-12-2007, 10:55 PM
Turbo, here is the revision, again I couldn't spend much time on it but it will give you the idea.2598:thumbup:

i was going to keep the pistol grip and add the stock. i might sand off the pistol bump on the stock or i might leave it.

what is an owen?

ranger i owe you again, thanks

i kinda put a cetme handgaurd up under the barrel jacket and kinda liked it there but need to blend it a little better.

Here's some pics. More reliable than the STEN back in the day. Mag up to move easier through the bush.

Norton pegged this one.

WildBillCody
06-12-2007, 11:54 PM
A very ugly gun, but very reliable and well liked by the troops.

turbothis
06-13-2007, 08:28 AM
omg, did the us actually use those? looks like something off a cartoon.

WildBillCody
06-13-2007, 08:40 AM
No the Aussie's, the mags are on the wrong side of the guns down there and the water turns the wrong direction when you flush the toilet :)

turbothis
06-13-2007, 08:48 AM
wow, those are interesting.

hey ranger, see if you can drop this stock onto the sten.

WildBillCody
06-13-2007, 09:03 AM
Like this?
I wasn't doing anything so I did it for you.

turbothis
06-13-2007, 09:48 AM
really close. i was thinking cutting the stock at the wrist bolt and attaching it a touch higher. it would have been nice to just inlay the receiver but the thing is too wide.

thanks for the picture help

WildBillCody
06-13-2007, 10:07 AM
How's this?

WildBillCody
06-13-2007, 10:10 AM
Staying with the english theme of the gun, Sten, Fal grip, I think you need a enfield stock, with a cloth wrapped forearm, it would look like a slilenced STEN or something.

turbothis
06-13-2007, 10:21 AM
cool! perfect.
got any pics of the cloth wrap?
also can you take off the barrel extention? that will be its final length. thanks again.

WildBillCody
06-13-2007, 10:23 AM
here ya go
You can buy the wraps, I think SARCO has them.

turbothis, you really are talented I wish I had your gunsmithing skills. I used your pics and played around in paint. See if any of these look close to what you want.:icon_biggrin:

turbothis
06-13-2007, 03:40 PM
alright, thanks 308.
i like the top one but i am thinking about putting a m70 ak lower handguard on it. the m70 lower fits good and would flow well. i mocked mine up and was pleased with the feel of it. the longer length really ties the front together.

Norton
06-13-2007, 03:42 PM
Have you thought about a PPsh 41 stock. if you could fit one to your weapon it would look sort of like a Lancaster or MP 28/2

Arizona Ranger
06-13-2007, 10:46 PM
Thanks wild bill and 308. I don't have time to play tonight so you saved me. Turbo, I like all versions, It's getting hard to decide. I'll have to check back on the progress tomorrow.

turbothis

i got my stock yesterday and chopped it up. i welded 2 tabs for the mounting screws and had to mill the slots on the stock deeper to keep them countersunk. it came together pretty sweet and tight too.

I am truly impressed with your project. I want to do a similar build one day. Any chance on sharing some of the measurements on it?

Norton
06-23-2007, 06:39 AM
It is really looks cool, you are really a talented builder. Who would have thought you could combine a AK F/C group with a STEN..
I mentioned in a previous post the resemblence to a OWEN (wrong).
I had my Aussie guns mixed up, It reminds me of a Aussie F1, but without the top feed.

turbothis
06-23-2007, 09:31 AM
that f-1 looks pretty wild. i like the flip up nade launcher looking rear sight.

walt- i will spec it out when it is done and firing flawlessly, that way i can modify up to that point.

i need a long ak lower to put on it too, anyone got one?????

turbothis
06-23-2007, 09:44 AM
my final furniture vision. i need another m-64 ak lower to put it on permenatly.

Any new progress reports?

turbothis
07-02-2007, 09:53 PM
ya, i got an idea to make a top cover.
i have been spending time on my vz58 kit but i get all my good ideas from working on lots of toys. the more i build the better things come to me.

i really hate the whole barrel extension thing too!!!! kinda kills the fun,but what the hell? cant have everything.

or can i??????:bash:

almost would look like the cousin of a tommy gun if that mag were down and not out to the side

turbothis
07-03-2007, 08:57 AM
ya know, i have the same though for a while but just dont like the idea of brass flying sraight upwards.

WildBillCody
07-03-2007, 02:12 PM
Yeah, and the whole idea is to be able to lay closer to the ground and still shoot.

turbothis
07-03-2007, 04:46 PM
huh? and i never thought about being flat would have an advantage. interesting..... maybe the bren had a similar thought???

hunter_la5
07-03-2007, 05:10 PM
huh? and i never thought about being flat would have an advantage. interesting..... maybe the bren had a similar thought???

precisely. a long mag sticking out the bottom can make prone shooting difficult

that's why its easier to shoot an SKS prone than an AK with a 40 round mag

turbothis
07-03-2007, 08:32 PM
maybe thats why the mg42 is prone dominate.

flat and fast

07-03-2007, 09:31 PM
Are going to put iron sights on? Maybe a rail to mount small optics? I'm still with you and building the same in my head. I really need to not buy another weapon and spend the geld on tools to tinker.:icon_biggrin:

turbothis
07-03-2007, 09:50 PM
i was thinking about a ground scope rail and then my hammers 2x red dot sight. i fear the iron sights might be mis aligned when they should straight. savy?

turbothis
07-14-2007, 07:11 PM
well i shot some more rounds out of her and it has some goofy issues. i think this is the same super hot ammo that split my tec 9. i had a couple blow up out of battery but this thing is built like a brick sh!t house and just smoked out the side. lol:oops:

these are some of the artistic shells. i did not save any of the chrapnel ones. i think the barrel is kinda bad chambered or something, and that dang kevin 97 kid sold me this thing!!!!!! just kidding am happy with it and i like a good challenge. :1087:

walt-oxie1
07-14-2007, 07:22 PM
It looks like you need a heavier recoil spring. It looks like the bolt is moving out of battery before the pressures drop off.

pigpen

I'll drink to that!

turbothis
07-14-2007, 07:44 PM
maybe i cut off too much wieght? from the bolt that is. the springs are perfect for the ejection stroke. i have 2 springs for the recoil. one fits inside the other.

walt-oxie1
07-14-2007, 07:51 PM
Too light of a bolt is a possibility. The only 2 corrections I can think of would be add more weight to the bolt or heavier spring. I can help you size up a spring or springs if you give me the dementions. I need to know the OD of the spring, the diameter of the wire and how many wraps. I will also need to know length they are going to be installed in with the bolt closed as well as the area they will be seated on the ends.

walt-oxie1
