IT WAS HUGE.:icon_biggrin:
Another cool shoot...with great company.
Thanks to all that showed...those that didnt...se ya next time.
It was hot enough for the shave cream to explode nicely.
And a nice brezze with no BUGS made it perfect.

Well, I dusted off the first rifle that I ever owned, my beloved Winchester 94 .30-30 AE (angle-eject). I "had to" put a scope on it way back when, because the day before Paperpuncher and myself were due to go hunting, I decided to go sight it in, and, to my horror, the ramp for the rear sight was nowhere to be found. I did manage to find a funshop that had scope rings for it, so, that's what I did, and, although I thought it was somewhat abominable at the time, messing up the fine lines of the old girl, it's grown on me in the meanwhile. I haven't shot it in maybe 20 years, or more. I didn't have anything to measure with, but, somehow, between the time I was 30-ish and now, 51, the scope has shrunk by about 5/16", because that's how far I had to unscrew the eyepiece to get things back into focus. Go figure.
Nobody came by, this time, to tell us how our bullets with right-hand twist magically curve up over the giant berm and curve right and anger people that have houses in improbable places, miles away. Thanks.
On a sadder note, I did find a sporting clay, intact, faded a pale shade of its former self from the harsh Florida sun. What sort of person leaves a perfectly good sporting clay in one piece? Didja run out of boolits, buddy? I only know that it wasn't one of US (being responsible Global Citizens, we often place sporting clays on the berms as targets, because, being so responsible, "Green" if you will, we like biodegradable targets that, unlike other targets, nobody, realistically, expects us to go out and clean up).
Kudos to FiremanFrank for making the road trip with all of that nice hardware...a new "first timer" for the FL shoots.
To the rest of the regulars that couldn't make it due to circumstances beyond their control: You were missed. Try to do a better job of "prioritizing" your "circumstances"...
Thanks again, Herian67, for organizing the whole shebang, and bringing the BBQ grill.

I believe the total was 6. Which, we all agreed, is OK. Two or more is OK-- whatever it costs, divided by the # of people, is what we'll pay to not have to deal with a-holes, in addition to the camaraderie. If it wasn't such a long drive for so many, I'd suggest we have a beer-shoot, w/o firearms, because it's such a nice group of people, that the bull-sessions would make it worth the price of admission, for me, anyway.
Paperpuncher couldn't make it, which means his dad was out, and his sister Deb and her husband, Terry, and sometimes her son, Randy. Hannibal was out, and his wife... that's a BIG dent in the population.
OTOH, I didn't realize it, but 7.62 Guy told me that we'd been "infiltrated" (my word) on one occasion... some a-hole RO told somebody that he was "too reckless" at the regular range, and needed to go out and shoot with US! WTF? We are NOT reckless, and IF anyone of us was, he or she wouldn't get to pull the trigger, even one more time, and that would be the end of THAT. I-say-again: WTF? If you're "reckless" in the eyes of ANY RO, you need to be thrown out, preferably with an escort from the Sheriff's Office. Thanks for nothin', RO.
This is a real problem, that concerns us all: when somebody can wander in... or my Uncle's neighbor's friend at work wants to chime in, that's an insurmountable liability. This is not unique to the FL Shoots...there's a lawyer out there with YOUR name on it if something goes amok.

George Armstrong Custer is somewhere... wishing that either we 6 were at Little Big Horn, or that he was #7 today.

Something I don't have enough ambition to pursue, but that I sorta pointed out today... Somebody ought to take a survey:
How many firearms do you OWN?
How many did you bring TODAY?
What is the total investment, in $, in the questions above?
How much, in $, would it cost to replace the ammo you went through today?
How much, in $, did you spend on fuel to get here?
(In my case) How much would it cost you to spend X hours at a bar, buying beverages for cheap floozies?
(Insert dog-track betting, Seminole casino betting, etc.)
In Other Words... getting IN, is just a tiny percentage of what's ALREADY BEEN SPENT in pursuit of a hobby.
Strictly speaking, there's NOTHING keeping me from going out in MY YARD and blasting away at things...some of my neighbors do, on occasion.
But, I'm pretty sure the old farts in the RV campground that I'm closer to, than they are, might not like it, and LEO's would show up, and...but
that's not what makes the world go around. Fortunately, for all concerned, I was able to clobber the garbage-can-wrecking dog with a 2X4 instead
of sending him to meet his Maker...it's about being <egad!> a responsible "grown-up". Yeah, nobody would have ever guessed that I could type...
or type those words.

Man it looks like it was a beautiful day at the range. Randy, that was probably my clay. My AK is about two feet off high and right at the berm. Sometimes the clays get lucky! Next shoot will be different. Diane even offered to drive me out there laying in the back of her Escape. Just not ready yet. But we'll be seeing you all at the next one!

It was fun and I hope to make the next one. I will be bringing many cans of shaving lotion the next go around and a couple other cool guns that I didn't bring this trip. I am still kicking myself for not stopping at one of the many watermelon stands I passed today but there is always the next time. At least I know now how to get there and what to bring.
Thanks for having the event and thanks to all for having food and drink. I will definitely bring a cooler full of water and soda next time. It was great to put a face to some of the screennames I see on here.

I am going to try for September 24 for the next shoot. Unless there is a consensus for a shoot in the summer. I personally don't mind being out in the heat.
I noticed that there is quite a few watermelon vines growing behind the first berm.

Where is the range for this? I'm coming to Clearwater in July, I might try and make it out, but I probably won't have any guns with me.

It's about an hour south of Clearwater. If we manage to have a shoot in July I'd be more than happy to show you the way down there as I come from that area.
