View Full Version : PTR Surprise & Question

I pcked up a PTR91 a couple of weeks back. It was in a local shop and I grabbed it up when I saw it and realized what it was. Things have been sort of crazy busy lately so I haven't shot it or really spent any time with it. One thing was sort of "bothering" me and that is that the forearm guard is metal (which I like). I had assumed that I had bought a 91F, their standard model, and the gun was priced that way.

Then, last night I went to slip on a green polymer handguard and I found that it was over two inches longer than what would fit on the PTR. I then went back to the PTR91 website and looked again and realized that I had bought the PTR91 KF Law Enforcement Carbine rather than the standard F. I'm usually more careful than that (although I would have grabbed up the gun anyway) but I think that I'm more than happy to have the KF with the shorter barrel and metal tactical handguard. It lists for $200 more so I certainly got a value.

My question is whether anyone knows of a polymer (or even wood) handguard that will fit the shorter KF. I'm wondering is there is any HK furniture that would work or any aftermarket. I'm betting that a wood handguard could be altered to serve the purpose, but if someone makes one stock I'd be much happier.

Fortunately the wood and plastic furniture that I've restored will be right at home on my Cetme (that should be headed this way via UPS as I write.)

I also have one of the 16" barrel PTR91s they are really nice rifles. These use the same forearm as the HK33/93/G3K. I know that there are wide plastic forearms with heat shields for these. I am not sure if any other styles of forearms have been made for them. I will put a couple of sources below they are a bit pricey. I think the regular wide forearm is $98 at HKparts and $119 at HKspecialist. HKspecialist also has the vented wide forearms for $155. I will also put a pic of each forearm below and the last two pics are my PTR91K, first with collaspable stock and then regular A2 stock with HK21 rubber butt pad.

BTW, I was able to get with Adam at HKParts.net and ordered a used forearm for the PTR91 KF for $75. He's a good man to deal with. I'm also going to try HKpartsonline for one in green.

Thanks again.

Of course you're right! My new forearm for the PTR91KF should be here tomorrow, as will be my first Cetme once the UPS man drops it off at my local FFL. Pictures will follow!
