Ok, I know a bit about Garands, but have never, ever shot in a DCM (oops) CMP match, but want to. So, I have an IHC that is about as matching as one of those gets. Problem is, there is absolutely no rifling left in the barrel. While it functions fine, shots don't group at 50yds, they pattern (like about 20+ inches) and some keyhole, so a new barrel is in order.
What I'm looking at doing is having a new Kreiger USGI contour barrel installed coupled with whatever allowable tweaking can be done within the rules. Who would the Garand gurus here recommend for this project? I don't want to make a NM out of it, but get it to where it's worth my time to try to compete with it.
As it stands right now, it looks great but my shotgun is more accurate. I purchased this beast many years ago, knowing the barrel was crap but when you can get a Garand for sub $200, and good used barrels were around for about $50, you overlook things like a lack of rifling. Never got around to fixing the thing, but darn it, it's time.
Longhorn789 was the man I'd ask about the Garand, but i'm not sure if hes around here anymore because I havn't been around for a while. I hope he is, good fella for sure...

Does Ken Kubin work on Garands? Orlando has the market cornered on Garands here. He's had work done on them but I don't know who. He will surely chime in if he sees this.

I do alot of my own tweaking but send rifles to shuffs for barrel installs, trigger work, reparking.
His service and work is the best ,you wont wait for many weeks or months to get your rifle back. He has a garuntee that 5 days after he receives your rifle it will be in the mail back to you.
If you have any questions he is more than happy to talk to you on the phone or answer emails
If you decide to go this way tell him I sent ya.

Dean Dillabaugh at Dean's Gun Restorations is one of the more well known Garand smithies out there. Here's done quite a bit of work for me the last few years, but here are two examples:
1942 SA Garand - new Wilson .30-06 barrel, all parts fully reparked, National Match trigger job, "Fancy" grade maple stock set with red stain, new springs, and a few other new parts that needed to be replaced. This rifle was one of the South Korean returns that came into the country back in the early 90s and was a complete beater (smooth bore sewer pipe, stock looked like it had been dragged down a gavel road for 3 days, some missing parts). Dean did an outstanding job on this one:

Custom M14 build - I sent Dean the HRA parts kit, birch stock from Fred's, and the warrifles.com Fulton receiver (group buy from back in the day). Dean added a Barnett/Douglas medium weight barrel, reparked all the metal, finished the birch stock with his Type 2 finish (more of an unissued military look to it), gave the trigger group a NM job, put everything together and sent it back to me.

I've got a total of 6 Garands in the collection - if I ever need any Garand work in the future, it will be going to Dean for sure. His website is here:
