i've been looking at some rifles to buy (please stifle your shocked gasps) and I was just curious if there is really that much difference in accuracy between a standard Springfield Armory M1A and their National Match, super match, etc. I already have a standard M1A, but I am looking into getting into some serious competition shooting when I get home, and I was wondering if the better model would make an appreciable difference, or if I'm better off just sticking with the standard for a while.

At this point, I mostly want to compete to get the experience and improve my shooting. Someday, probably a long, long ways off, I want to pin the President's Hundred tab onto my uniform. When I get that good, I'm gonna want the best rifle money can buy, but for now, I just want to make sure I'm not outclassed before I send the first round downrange.

Thoughts?
Opinions?

Not sure how Springfield does it, but Fulton Armory uses heavier barrels, NM parts with NM front and rear sights. They also bed the stock.

Check the weight of the 2 rifles and compare. The NM I would think be heavier.

Usually National Match will have NM front & rear sights, NM Op rod, NM Op rod spring guide and the trigger reworked. The Springfield Super Match will have those and a beded stock and double lug receiver..
On the Super Match, the stock is heavier
