http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2007/jun/13/prison_could_get_gitmo_detainees/

i dont want these people brought to my backyard! They need to stay OFF our soil.

the article talks about releasing some of the people possibly, and sending others to leavenworth, whats next, letting them sue us for damages and pay them some cash upon leaving so they can fund some terrorist activity on our dime?

mebbe it is a plan to get US inmates to do all the shankin' and shivvin' and then gov just explains in the news that "uh, well, those gitmo guys started some shite with the Latin Kings or something, and uhm, they all got perished."

When I was a little kid we lived there and dad worked at the USADB, it was neat, one way you looked was the military prison, the other way was the federal pen. I guess weather we bring them here or not, depends on really what their status is legaly, as the article says.

Sounds like a political tactic to put pressure on the White house. If they move the detainees to US soil, you'll have the ACLU outside of the base everyday.. That's how they've kept them out so far. By keeping them off US soil and keeping them classified as "Combatants". If they get Stateside. You'll have filings and motions everyday and a couple a hundred or more protesters outside of the gate for photo ops and bad press....

Of course this is another political tactic and it doesn't suprise me one bit that Harkin (D-Iowa) put it out there. Putting them at Leavenworth is a bad idea. There's a whole town around the base and do you think for a second the citizens there would; A) want to live next door to the main detention center for 'enemy combatants' and/or B) want to deal with the media circus that would undoubtably result?

From a security stand point, it will be infinitely more possible to launch an attack on Leavenworth or most other holding facilities on the continental US than it is on Gitmo. Some spunky terrorist cell would eventually get the idea to try to bust their brothers out of prison if they were here. If we have to put them in somewhere in the US I say some corner of White Sands or Edwards AFB. Someplace far away from population centers and in the middle of a LARGE military installation away from prying eyes.

Better yet, put them in south central LA or parts of Detroit. That'll keep the ACLU away from them.
