They don't call the city where I live "Hillsburrito" for the hell of it! I speak more Spanish here than when I lived in San Diego. Down there I lived in Chula Vista, also known as "Chulajuana", because you couldn't tell if you were there or Tijuana, Mexico.

I like dry skin now and then so I live in Arizona. :cool1:

How much interest would we have in a build party in our neck of the woods? To get it started, I'd even be willing to have it at my house. Gunkgy had one once up at his place and it was a good time. I put it in my intro thread as well, but I'm in Maple Valley. Anyone?

Damn, you only live about 5 minutes from me, I live right off the Maple Valley exit from 18. We could get something together easily. You got any current builds going? I've got a couple AKs in progress, and I have my CETME kit enroute.

Hey, I'm new to the board and thought I would announce myself. I live in Seattle at the moment. I'm in the research stage right now, I don't know if I want to build or buy or what, all I know is I'd like to invest in a modern battle rifle. All I've got now is an old Enfield from Century (not to put it down or anything). I'm planning on going to the gun show up in Monroe this coming weekend so maybe I'll figure something out up there.

I put my M1A / M14 together from parts I collected over a 3 year period. Only draw back I see is the prices of M1A parts have jumped greatly in the past couple of years.
By the way, I also plan at being at that show on Saturday.

For all of use living in Washington. Just a reminder to use caution when buying Kit rifles with auto parts. Remeber that you have the full auto parts "To convert the parts to semi for your build", or sell them off and get US made parts. It's a stupid law on the books that says you cannot posses these parts unless you are a ghunsmith and reparing Police or Military class 3 weapons, or for most of us, to convert to semi auto. You just have to know the answer before the question is asked. As alot of the auction boards tell eveyone one who looks what state you're from, I could see some bored official tracking you down just to make some humbug case. I think I worry more about it on the east side of the mountians as they seem to take this stuff way too serious... Just a reminder..

I'll be setting up a table at the show on July 14 & 15, 2007 at the Puyllaup. Going to have some cherry Russian Mosin-Nagant 91/30s, Possibly some M38's and M44's. All excellent. Also some CETME Mags and parts, HK91 parts... AT least so far. All of the safes are full... Barring something unforeseen. I'm planing to be there...

Upper Columbia, dry side of Wa state. Hey fungus, why should we on the wild side of the state be more concerned than you coasties about special interest from the authorities concerning kit guns?? Oh, most if us out here don't consider ellensburgh and similar environs the eastside...it starts well east of Moses Lake...my 2 cents.

Just that the King County Anti gun folks have been trying without luck to show what a lawless band of thugs buy and sell guns at State gun shows, have tried to setup members with sale violations on tape and have had no luck on this side... So, watch out on your side.. This group is trying to shut down all Show sales in the whole State... And a Assault Weapon Ban on the books of the State.. We're used to them now. They get escorted out and the parking lots are checked to ensure no one sells or buys from outside of the show...

Yeah. Done work for both, but the last 10 years mostly worked for Plum Creek (GP) around Toledo and Siletz. Did you get those animals this year? If not how did you do this year?
Shotpouch is a good area. I remember we went through there to get to a job we did for Thompson, and went by an old town sight in the woods. Only thing still there was the cemitery. Pretty cool.

Here's another Seattleite (Madison Park) chiming in. Discovered this site yesterday and got inducted today. Am glad to be among like minded lead throwers.
Been a member of WAC for many years, and so to Snoqualmie Valley Rifle Club.
Am a milsurp aficianado w/ pronounced Warsaw Bloc-ChiCom proclivities; do remember BITD and miss it.
Would smile upon a build party, Maple Valley-Covington or nearby. Have nothing here beyond handtools, live in a condo, so can offer little beyond grunt work and brewskis.
Do enjoy plinking up in the Cascades and in central Washington; keeps the practical shooting skills sharp.
Am poised to undertake a number of field trips and would be glad to link up w/ like minded folk near Portland and The Dalles, Oregon, Boise, Idaho, Spokane, Washington, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Austin, Texas, to make a racket and sample local suds.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks, TurboThis, and merry Christmas to family and friends!
The Episcopal Church on the wet side of the Cascades in your state has always been run outta Portland, since 1854 at any rate. Altho there was a strong desire to take "lengthen cords" into southern Oregon traditionally, this didn't come about easily or quickly. It was largely a question of access (difficult) and personnel (actually, lack thereof). From time to time a young priest would be found to undertake the work. Some stations in your neck of the woods are:
Ashland, Trinity, 1894
Brookings, Saint Timothy, 1949
Cave Junction, Saint Matthias, 1951
Gold Beach, Saint Matthew, 1945
Grants Pass, Saint Luke, 1894
Medford, Saint Mark, 1890
Man, I'd love to get down into this field and do some steeple chasing and fancy shooting. Maybe some day.
It shouldn't surprise anyone to learn that eastern Oregon was a huge challenge to the church. The first missionary bishop dedicated to it suffered a nervous breakdown - he had to stare down to many drunken gun slingers for his own good - and decried the dry side as "a spiritual hell." Has things changed much?

RedLeg, near you is the quaint town of Tumwater. Used to be the home of a pretty decent local brew called "Olympia." That stuff had been around for a century at least, perhaps not up to Lone Star standard yet close.
Unfortunately, our Democratic Party-owned state government decided, in its infinite wisdom, to tax the blazes out of all commercial breweries they could reach, and so "Olympia" and "Rainier" and their ilk were run out, and have devolved over the years into rock gut suds made up in California! This was a awhile ago.
In the meantime, some microbreweries have come along which hired lawyers able to dodged the state tax rape, and these have gone on to do heap big buisness around here. I'm thinking of Red Hook, Hales', Elysian and others.
I suspect in things related to brewskies - as in things related to good citizenship - the great state of Texas is not one to eat its young. Let's hope this is a trend that continues.
RedLeg, while I've got you on the "phone," let me ask something. Are you being given all you suspect you need in regards to live fire training at Fort Lewis? This interests me coz I'm tempted to put in for a job working some of the shooting ranges down there, and would only do so if the "system" actually works preparing you guys in uniform. If you're still around this coming summer and go off to Yakima, you should feel right at home over there!

First off Iv only been at Lewis since nov. Second I'm an artilleryman so our time at the rifle ranges is less than your typical 11b. Third my unit and entire BDE for that matter is new, undermanned and kinda still getting into the swing of things. Weve been focusing more on getting the kinks worked out of our dilapidated howitzers as well as training those who have never worked on the 198 weapon system. But yes we do go to the ranges, both M-16 (300m) and 240b (800m). Are we given all the range time we need? No, nobody at any base with any MOS is given enough to prepare for battle. That would be impossible. But I think most infantry do get lots of range time as well as MOUT training and field time at yakima. We will be doing lots of live 155mm fire at yakima in feb. You probably know Ft Lewis is home to the 2nd ID. This is composed of stryker BDEs they are well known through out the military as a very well trained very effective division. 3-2 (3rd BDE, 2nd Inf) Just came back from a successful tour in Iraq. 4-2 is currently in the sand. The short answer to your question is yes. Although I personally have not had alot of time at the range.
What kind of work would you be doing?
archivist dick
01-07-2008, 07:31 PM
RedLeg, from the several job descriptions I've read the work at Fort Lewis would include: ammo bunker maintenance; schlepping small arm and artillery fodder to various ranges; filling out receipt and use certificates; schlepping remnants back to bunkers; inventorying; receiving (I've pushed paper for Uncle Sam lots).
This is a civilian job, believe it or not. Have not applied for it, yet, coz it is way OT for me, yet I can see the benefits provided the troops are sufficently and well served by their training schedules and supplies on hand.
You'll like the Yakima military reservation.
Good luck in your studies. You do us all proud and that's for sure.
