I can't leave well enough alone. The paint job is holding up better than I dreamed. BUT, I want to paint my "F" and "S" back in. While at it, I thought about doing all the stamped letters/numbers like the MARS.
I looked at Midway, I think it was, but never found what I was looking for. The question I'm asking is what kind of paint and how do you apply it to the letters? I was thinking years ago I read (not on the net) that you used enamel paint for model cars and wiped it on and off and the relief was filled. Any suggestions?

You can either use a fine point paint marker and wipe away the extra, but do it quickly or use a china marker.

If you use a smooth/napless cloth, something without loose fibers unlike a washcloth or towel, you wrap your finger in it so the tip is tight, touch a little model enamel on the cloth, and wipe it lightly over the numbers/letters. It should fill them. Then with the same technique but no paint, wipe off any thats left on the surface. If theres any that wont quite wipe away, wait till its drier, then use some acetone on the cloth, but wipe around the numbers so you dont get any in there. This method is shown and used in Gunplumbers FAL build videos.

it is waxy, and sticks really well in deep stampings and well enough in shallow stampings. Oil base paint like testors white modl paint also works, use thinner to wipe away excess.
I recommend these two because they stick better tan wate-based latex or acrylic paints...and are more gun cleaner resistant.

As we say around here..."more 'an one way to skin a cat". I'll try them all!
