What do your neighbors think about you displaying guns on your front porch?

Hopefully you will have a better experience with your Hesse than the vast majority.

Hesse made a worse cetme than CIA. The only G3 stuff on it is the sights, and all the internals will be cetme.

A few guys like their Hesse rifles, but the overwhelming majority of people will tell you that Hesse is a few steps below CAI.

Did Hesse cut them out or leave them covered over like CAI? It's nice to have it exposed either way. Range Report forthcoming I hope .

When century made the rifles, they didnt take the barrels out of the trunions, they just placed the trunion, barrel and all then spot welded them to the receivers. Thus there is a chance your rifle was pressed and the bolt gap was set, then pinned, with everything as the design was orginally supposed to be built.

What the heck is 400 microns?

Micron = micrometer = 0.001 millimeter

400 microns = 0.4 mm approx 0.0157 inches

I guess we answered twice

400 microns (.400 of a millimeter) is metric that is the way the guns are originally built. to convert to inch system mutiply by .03937

.400 x .03937 = 0.015748 of an inch
i'm a toolmaker have 16 years in shops all doing inch system now i'm at a japanese company and have to work in metric it really sux we normally convert all dimension over to inch to make the parts

Nice rifle Casey and it seems like you got a good deal.

I will disagree with Jfowl's comments on the Hesse Cetme be inferior to the Century. It was build on a better kit probably and will work out of the box. Its biggest downfall is the G3 rear sight.

I agree with tanker here, they I would imagine, properly installed the barrel, by first welding the trunion in the receiver, then pressing the barrel to acheive the proper bolt gap, then pinning. Thus the thing has a far better chance of being within spec, compared to how century did it.

I coulda sworn I've read up and down and all around about how the Hesse Cetmes are worse than CAI rifles... I guess I could be wrong.

Ive read that they did the same thing Century did in building (not taking barrel out of trunnion), and made most of the same mistakes as CAI, except they didnt grind bolts.

Ive also read that they used a much softer steel in their receivers (and in AK's as well), and this caused problems with scope mounting and having everything in spec.

Again, this is just from reading and not any personal experience, but it seems that ANYONE satisfied with a HESSE rifle of any kind is a very lucky guy and tends to be pretty rare.

There was 1 guy on gunboards that said he hadnt had any problems with his, but about 6 other guys chimed in the same problems as CAI rifles on their Hesses.

but from what I understand, they are all cetme parts on a G3/Cetme receiver with a G3 drum sight. Ive read that many times, Hesse used their US made magazine parts for compliance, so you might doublecheck your parts count.

Jfowl,

You are not dreaming it, but I think that with so few of them being around, and so much attention on the Century mistakes, folks have forgotten about the Hesse days.
