Theres one for sale @ my local Bob Wards for just under 1000. It's been fired, but only by the manager at one of their "demo days" they do at the local range. It comes with a thow-away tru-glo red dot. Anyway, never heard anything really about the Ruger AR... what do y'all think?

But what is the difference from the other AR manufacturers? The sales guy was talking about the piston thing, but I guess i don't get it.

What it sounds like to me is more wampum if something breaks, or it means it will be harder to find parts. Am I right? I guess what i'm saying is that I know what i'm getting into if I buy a Colt or a Bushmaster...

I think Ruger has a lifetime warranty if not its good warranty anyways the lowers are about the same as any other lower the only real dif is the piston parts.

Here is a very good video that talks about a different subject but has a couple animations that how the ruger gas piston works. It, for a lack of better words, looks to work like a FAL and an AK with it's adjustable gas/piston system. Hope this helps and I haven't heard anything bad about the Ruger except the cost, most dealers around here want 1600+ for a new one.

I hear they have some issues with steel cased ammo. Also make sure you get the updated one with the updated bolt that has "skirts" on the back to prevent carrier tilt.

I have a buddy with one. He loves it. Heavier than a standard AR, but seems to be more solid... I've had it apart to take a look at the piston system... Just out of curiosity, mind you... and it looks outstanding. I'd buy one if I had the $$$... Under a thousand is a steal. The cheap ones go for 1600 plus around here.

I bought a Sig 516 before hearing about Ruger's piston AR, and I've had the hint of a second thought, but only because the Ruger I saw advertised came slightly cheaper with most of the accessories I'm now buying for my 516. But I have no complaints about the 516 at all. Admittedly, I have yet to actually shoot it. Please don't ask why, because I don't have a good answer.
