I got a WASR-3 over the weekend, and wonder, besides the wegners that came with it, are there other options that anyone has used with success? I have two converted phenolic 74 mags in 223 from a show, they should fit up, I additionally have the mags from my Chinese Mak-90 in 223, and I beleive they will fit, just was wondering if any one has some first hand info on interchangeablity.

I picked up three tantal steel europian mags in 5.45x39 but with my other options I think they wont get converted, just used in the sar-2.

The Weigers are about the only ones that work in mine. I got a bakelite that said 5.56 on it (came with the gun from Century), but it appears they didn't change out the follower and it doesn't feed worth a crap.

My M95 Yugo works with the Weigers, Galil and Promags. Haven't tried the Promag in the WASR yet, but it has a tighter mag well than the Yugo.

I tried the Promag waffles in the WASR; they seem to lock up fine. Will have to try it out at the range to be 100%.

The Galil's won't go in the mag well.

You may need to visit http://forum.saiga-12.com and see how they modify the plastic galil mags for use in the Saiga .223.

Not sure if they'd work after modification, anyway, as I've heard the mag is designed to ride higher in the receiver.

Then again, they work fine in the Saiga .223, and one would think an AK is an AK.

Not messing with a Saiga, it is a WASR 3. The magwells are a little different, between it and a Yugo M-95. I don't want to cut any more off my Galils to make them work in the WASR, I have plenty of Weigers for it.

Anyone who is interested in this thread, might find the galil mag info useful.

According to the old AK47.net, the wegners were the way to go. But that has been a long time since I haunted that forum.
