I was wondering if anyone here has tried the Versa-Pod adapter for the HK91? How about versa-pod bipods? How do they compare with Harris?

I ran across this yesterday and thought it looked kind of slick.

I saw those too, but didnt see the poit of getting that over just a normal bipod for the wide handguard. The original design of the bipod works just fine, and fold up right where it should be. I dont really get the appeal of this kind of bipod on the wide handguard. I have a Harris bipod on a Cetme wood handguard, but strongly prefer the HK with the original bipod any day for carrying.

POF-usa has the wide handguard bipods.

I prefer the original HK bipod but it does have it's limitations. A Versa-pod gives the height adjustability that an Hk can't. Ofcourse, that's only a plus if you need it.

The Hk bipod is just the perfect height for me. low enough to be confy shooting prone on a level target, and not too high or low to get thrown off when shooting off a hill.

The versa-pod folds forward, and looks really goofy IMO when folded, and just makes for more stuff to catch on brush for me. I love how the bipod folds up nice and tight on the handguard, and it even makes a nice wide flat bottom for bench shooting off sandbags.

only complaint I have about mine is that the springs are just a little too weak for my tastes... though I had no problem shooting off it all this past weekend.

The one advantage I give to a harris style bipod is that when you lock it down, its a very positive lock, and you can put some weight on it by pushing it forward with your shoulder to get a good cheek/shoulder weld. If you push on the HK bipod, it will collapse. Thats one reason I want stronger springs in mine.

But If Im gonna be in a really long range session, Ill just throw on my wood with the Harris on it, and go from there. The wide is the best for hunting, and such, and the wood for the range with the more stable, adjustable Harris on it.

I cant speak for the stability of the versapod, but from all the pics Ive seen, it doesnt look anywhere near as stable as a harris, or even a shooter's ridge for that matter.

The issue HK light bipods have always been pricey. The heavy bipods even more. Robert Johnson/RTG Parts in Peoria, AZ usually has the light bipods. They may be either the HK or the ones made by P.O.F. (Pakistan Ordnance Factories). P.O.F. is a licensee of HK and all their stuff is top notch. Usually the P.O.F. bipods run about $75 with the HK being much higher. As for $40, I don't know.

The bipods that Midway and DSA have are made by Promag. NOT nearly as good as HK or POF. I know because I bought one. Spring for the extra few dollars and buy the POF; you wont be sorry. :airtight:

If you have a source for POF bipods, please share. I haven't seen them available since... well, EVER. I've been looking for them for a year or so.

Promag bipods are the only option currently unless you want to buy pay triple or quadrouple the cost for an HK. and FWIW I'm 100% happ with my Promag bipod. It work,, locks up pretty well. The only thing I'll do to it ins a.) either put in a spacer to tighten up the springs, or b.) find some stronger springs... as they are a tad weak. manufacturing, look feel, lock up, all that is perfect.

I don't know of a current source of POF bipods. The last ones I saw for sale were on GB or AA (I can't remember for sure). The guy had 3 or 4 for ~$90, just a month or two ago. I wish I had bought one. I sprung for the cheaper Promag instead and regret it. I'm not saying the Promag won't work, because it will and does. BUT I had to spend a lot of time with MINE to get the wobble (lots of wobble) out, and to get the legs to lock in place (wouldn't lock up or down worth a flip). After a little time and effort its not half bad, the only complaint I have now is the crappy finish on it.
I don't use it right now. I turned down a sling swivel stud to fit through the front rivet hole on my wide handguards. I put on one of the Shooters Ridge bipods ($40 from the local Wally World), and haven't looked back. It's just a lot more solid and the height adjustment is really nice for what I use it for.
If I run across any POF's or a source, I'll pass it along.
Oh, and yes, I agree; the real deal HK bipods are priced quite high IMHO.
