Hey guys,

I'm building a custom AR. Since I'm relatively new to the AR platform, this could be a pretty basic/easy question to answer.

I want to make a custom free-float handguard/barrel cover. I understand that for most free-float barrels, they use a nut with outside threads and just spin it on.

The problem I see is that these nuts are usually part of an existing free float handguard. I just need an outside threaded nut and then I can cut threads to match the nut into my custom tube.

1) Are these nuts available somewhere?
2) Any known 'standard' tube dimensions? I was going to pick up some tube from Speedy Metals if they have the right size.

Hmm... I changed my search up at MidwayUSA and found something; Yankee Hilll Machine Free Float Tube Handguard Barrel Nut Aluminum Matte

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=748354

They're out of stock. And $28. But this is what I'm going to need, isn't it...
